Students flood Chapel Hill's Franklin Street following UNC's National Championship victory

Redemption. That was the word on everyone's lips as thousands clad in Carolina blue swarmed Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Monday night.  After falling in last year's National Championship game, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels beat Gonzaga in Phoenix, Ariz., and fans back on campus celebrated in grand fashion. In one of UNC's most famous athletic traditions, throngs of Carolina faithful formed a sea of celebration on the corner of Franklin St.

Class, club responsible for selecting guest speakers

From artists to scientists to authors to lawyers, Elon University students have opportunities this year to meet and listen to professionals from different backgrounds and careers. These events might only take a few hours for most students, but for Emily Hayes, copresident of the Liberal Arts Forum, and other students in the class and club, these events take months of planning and thousands of dollars.

Phoenix sweeps JMU with complete game shutout from freshman Brnovich

The Elon University Baseball team defeated James Madison University by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Latham Park, sweeping the Dukes in their three game series, extending a winning streak to six. Although the Phoenix won the first two games of the series in high-scoring affairs, Sunday’s game was decidedly a pitching duel.

Pride remains for women's basketball despite 1st round loss

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — When senior guard Essence Baucom fouled out of the Elon University women’s basketball team’s first game in the NCAA Tournament in school history, head coach Charlotte Smith stopped her as she went to the bench. With Baucom tearing up, Smith opened her arms and pulled her point guard and star defender in for a hug, an embrace that concluded Baucom’s time in an Elon uniform. The 11th-seeded Phoenix lost 75-62 to sixth-seeded West Virginia University March 17 in College Park, Maryland, ending its best season in the Division I era in the first round of the Big Dance.

HB2 repeal bill passes

After passing in both the House of Representatives and the Senate of the North Carolina state legislature, Gov. Roy Cooper signed a repeal to the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, commonly known as House Bill 2, on Thursday, March 30.

HAGER: Waddling into the sunset: A eulogy for Club Penguin

It was the home of so many firsts: first dates; first parties; first independence. I still remember that pizza parlor like it was yesterday. I still remember those igloos like I remember my childhood bedroom. But now, the place where so many of us grew from kids into adults is waddling off into the sunset.

Republican lawmakers announce proposal to repeal HB2

North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger announced a proposal to repeal House Bill 2, better known as HB2 or the “bathroom bill.” The Republican leaders claim that the bill came from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s office, and was met with approval by Republican leaders in the North Carolina General Assembly.
