Elon women's basketball faces tough test Thanksgiving Weekend

When the calendars turn to December, the Elon University women’s basketball team will know where it stands compared to the traditional Southern Conference powers like the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Davidson College.  Elon’s team is young, as its roster contains four highly touted freshmen and just one senior.

‘Dancing in the Black Box’ to showcase new choreography in intimate performance

For students in Elon University’s dance program, fall is synonymous with the main stage show, “Dancing in the Black Box,” which runs through Homecoming weekend this year. Jen Metcalf, this year’s director and assistant professor of dance, said Homecoming is a perfect time for the show, especially this year since it showcases work from choreographers with different connections to Elon. “We’re using faculty work up against student works,” Metcalf said.

Wheel of Fortune Auditions Coming to Burlington

Ever want to buy a vowel? Now's your chance. The Wheel of Fortune's Wheelmobile is coming to Burlington on Saturday, November 16, and people will have the opportunity to audition for the popular game show. Fans can fill out an application, and if their name is drawn at random, they will have the opportunity to play a simulated version of Wheel of Fortune onstage for the chance to win prizes and be evaluated as a potential contestant for the broadcast version of the show. Auditions will be at Alamance Crossing from 1-5 p.m between Kohl's and Dillard's. Staff members from the Wheel of Fortune promotions team will be handing out applications one hour before each show begins.

Opportunity knocks for Elon alumni with 'Little Knockers,' parody of HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

The terrifying prospect of not seeing your classmates again is in the minds of every college graduate. But you would be surprised by how much collaboration exists among Elon University alumni. Tim Johnson, alumnus of the Class of 2009, teamed up with other Elon alumni to create the three-part comedic web series "Little Knockers," a parody of HBO’s intensely heated "Hard Knocks." WATCH: 'Little Knockers' has more than 100,000 views on FunnyorDie.com. While retaining the same level of drama from “Hard Knocks,” “Little Knockers” projects the seriousness of the HBO series towards a peewee football team, creating a hysterical complex among the young children and the over-the-top head coach, played by Jim O’Heir from the popular NBC series "Parks and Recreation." Johnson, the director and producer, worked closely with writer and producer Jonathan Marty to create the show.

'Twist-or-Treat' event teaches lessons in and out of class

On Friday a group of Elon students hosted a Halloween-themed Twister tournament called "Twist-or-Treat," which raised money to benefit the Positive Attitude Youth Center, an organization that gives local youths a safe and supportive place to stay after school. Students signed up with teams and competed against each other in large games of Twister, some even dressed in costumes. The event was a project for a Programming and Event Management class, which takes a unique approach to learning.

El Centro, CREDE host Carnaval celebration in McKinnon Hall

Mckinnon Hall was decorated in gold, green and red on Feb. 25 as students came together for Elon’s Carnaval celebration, a festival celebrated across Latin America before Lent begins. The event featured food, crafts and performances from Elon’s drum line and traditional Afro-Brazilian dance.

Elon to adopt new learning management system following fall review of Moodle platform

Students logging into their courses next academic year may notice a shift in how assignments, grades and course materials are organized as Elon transitions from Moodle, its old learning management system, to Canvas by Instructure, its new one. The decision followed a campuswide evaluation of Moodle that included surveys and open forums, according to Teaching and Learning Technologies Senior Director Kelly Reimer.
