The Elon University women’s basketball team concluded the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday, Nov. 30, with a 68-56 loss to Mercer University in Nashville, Tenn.

Elon-MercerThe loss was the Phoenix’s fourth straight, and second of the weekend’s two day tournament, with a loss to tournament host Vanderbilt University the day before as the other defeat.

Up four with 6:43 left in the first half, the Bears went on a 16-0 run to stretch their lead to 36-20. It was a lead they would never relinquish, keeping the Phoenix at arms length throughout the second half en route to a 12-point win.

The Phoenix had three score in double figures, paced by junior center Shannen Cochraham, who led the Phoenix with 14 points. Junior guard Zora Stephenson and senior guard Kelsey Harris were the other two Phoenix to score in double figures, adding 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Bears were led by junior guard Precious Bridges, who scored 19 points on 8 of 20 shooting, including 3 of 3 from behind the arc.

The loss drops the Phoenix to 2-4 overall, while the Bears improve to 4-3.

The Phoenix will travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a Sunday, Dec. 8, showdown with North Carolina State University in Reynolds Coliseum. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
