Elon University launches HealthEU

Elon University launched HealthEU, an initiative that is part of the Boldly Elon Strategic Plan for 2030. Under Theme 2, Thrive, this campaign focuses on wellness in six areas — community, emotional, financial, physical, purpose and social.

Black Lumen Project reflects on first full year

Buffie Longmire-Avital presented the Black Lumen Project’s main accomplishments from its first year on Aug. 16 as a part of planning week. This presentation was for other Elon faculty and staff members, letting them know where to find resources to learn about Black history within Elon and how to create sustainable change.

Elon University creates webpage for monkeypox response

The Elon University Infectious Disease Response Team created a webpage about the university’s response to monkeypox, according to an email from Dean of Students Jana Lynn Patterson. The webpage offers answers to frequently asked questions about how monkeypox could affect Elon’s campus.

President’s Address brings sense of hopefulness for Elon University’s academic year

Elon University President Connie Book’s is beginning this academic year with a sense of hopefulness. This morning, she delivered the President’s Address, which officially marks the beginning of the academic year. Book first spoke about meeting with Elon students leaders and preparing for the upcoming year, and she said they all found that building relationships and community was the number one factor for student success.

Iconic statue to leave Graham

Alamance Arts will host a going away party for "Embracing Peace" Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring entertainment and the history of the sculpture. The last day to view the statue will be Aug. 14 before dismantling takes place Aug. 15 and 16.

North Carolinians rate public schools poorly in new Elon Poll

As K-12 students across North Carolina prepare for their winter break, the Elon University Poll released poll data on Dec. 17 finding that most North Carolinians gave mediocre or poor grades to public schools across the state. “The states have always had deep authority on education, but there has been more federal involvement in various years,” Director of the Elon University Poll Jason Husser said. “So we thought, well, this is the time for us to really look in depth about what do people think about North Carolina schools.”

Grief, loss support group provides comfort for Elon faculty, staff

Elon University associate chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen said loss and grief are universal emotions, but found that they can be difficult for faculty and staff to process while continuing their usual routines. “Even when we show up to work, that doesn’t mean that we get to put the rest of our lives on the back burner,” Tonnesen said. “Our grief comes with us. It’s not something we can just keep on a shelf at home.” In collaboration with Counseling Services, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, began offering a monthly group for faculty and staff to support those affected by loss.
