Burlington announces rebranding and redevelopment of downtown

"2016 will be remembered as the year the city remade itself," said mayor and Elon University alumnus Ian Baltutis. Tuesday night, set on the backdrop of the historic Paramount Theater, The Burlington Downtown Corporation Board of Directors and Brand Development Team at Greensboro-based Bouvier Kelly announced their plans to both rebrand and revitalize downtown Burlington.

The Elon University men’s basketball team did what it should do, beating the winless-in-conference University of Delaware 83-56 Thursday night in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Blue Hens (5-17 overall, 0-11 CAA) struggled mightily in the first half, scoring just 11 points on 5-23 shooting.

‘We've forgotten about the conversation’: HIV/AIDS still hits the South as awareness fades

45 years after the first reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the U.S., the fight against this disease is far from over, especially in the South. According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the South accounted for 52% of all HIV diagnoses in the U.S. in 2023. "We know that HIV/AIDS has had a disproportionate effect on people of color or queer people of color in this country," Professor of communication studies at Vanderbilt University Jeff Bennett said. "You have many people living in rural areas. You might have distrust of medical providers, you have the social stigma.”
