Move-In Day generates enthusiasm throughout campus

Establishing life at college involves braiding together pieces of home with indications of a new beginning. Most Elon University freshman considered deciding what to pack to be their biggest challenge on Move-In Day, but Takeva Mitchell had no doubt her fish would accompany her to campus. "I had to bring him because my mom was not going to take care of him," said Mitchell, who transported her fish, Carter, in a plastic container from her house in Burlington. Freshman Jessica Grembowski also introduced reminders of home into the Elon community.

Women's cross country voted top in SoCon by coaches

Nine days before their first race of the season, the Elon University women's cross country team got a bit of a boost from the Southern Conference coaches. The Phoenix women were picked to finish first in the conference in 2012, earning the first-place vote of seven of the twelve SoCon coaches and 115 points.

Campus dining facilities renovated to increase capacity

In an effort to compensate for the loss of Harden Dining Hall, several changes have been made to dining facilities across campus, including name changes and seating expansions. The grab-and-go section of downstairs McEwen had been renamed McGo and redesigned to serve dining hall food to students on the run.

Women's soccer draws 1-1 tie with Cincinnati

Elon athletics are finally back as the Women’s Soccer team kicked off their 2012 campaign with a 1-1 tie over Big East opponent, Cincinnati. “It was a well fought game on both sides and I’m proud of our team for battling a lot of injuries and adversity tonight,” Chris Neal, Elon head coach, told elonphoenix.com. One of the injuries Neal was referring to was to preseason all-conference goalkeeper, Kate Murphy.

Residence Life in need of RAs as fall semester approaches

If the recent email sent to students from new associate director of residential education Laura Arroyo seemed urgent to recruit new resident assistants, it’s because all empty RA slots needed to be filled by the start of training this Thursday. “There are only three or four open slots that need to be filled,” said Thomas Bowie, the assistant director of Residence Life for Danieley Center.

Three weeks leads to another four months

Junior Laura Van Drie will be studying abraod in Copenhagen this fall. She will be writing regularly for The Pendulum about her experiences abroad and news developments in Denmark.  Part of the reason I came to Elon University was because of the study abroad opportunities. But before I went on my Winter Term trip to India and Dubai this past January, I wasn't sure if I actually wanted to spend a whole semester abroad - the thought of leaving Elon for a whole four months was a little nerve-wracking. After a few days in Dubai and three weeks in India, I knew I absolutely wanted to explore other countries.
