Records Abound as Elon Dumps Western Carolina

Three hundred sixteen three-pointers in a career. Seven blocks in a single game. Two tough marks to reach in Women’s college basketball were both achieved by Elon University women's basketball players in the Phoenix’s 60-51 win over the Western Carolina University Catamounts on Monday night. Senior Ali Ford illustrious Elon career hit another milestone when the point guard drained her 316th career three-pointer with 17:50 to play in the second half.

Six-shooters: Men’s basketball upends UNCG to continue winning streak

“Next play, let’s move on, let’s focus on the here and now.” In a tough Southern Conference stretch, the Elon University men’s basketball team is doing just that. Junior guard Jack Isenbarger ended a game-long field goal-less slump by hitting a big three-pointer to give Elon a late lead the Phoenix held on to as they defeated the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Spartans 72-66 Thursday night for their sixth straight victory. After missing his first ten shots from the floor, seven of them from beyond the arc, Isenbarger hit a contested trey from just left of the top of the key to give Elon a 68-66 lead, a lead that stuck, with 1:27 left in the game. “You’ve gotta have shooter’s amnesia some times, just forget it,” said Isenbarger, who ended the night with just six points but a game-high ten rebounds.

Dartmouth instigates debate about Advanced Placement policies

Dartmouth College recently announced it will no longer accept Advanced Placement credits from incoming freshmen, sparking a debate concerning the academic worth of Advanced Placement credits at all college institutions, including Elon University. Dartmouth made the decision after its psychology department questioned the academic rigor of the AP psychology exam.

Men's hoops notches fifth straight victory, defeats The Citadel

Junior guard Jack Isenbarger scored 22 points and dished eight assists and freshman guard Tanner Samson scored a career-high 15 points in 38 minutes of action as the Elon University men's basketball team defeated The Citadel 70-66 Saturday afternoon in Charleston, S.C. With the win, Elon improved to 13-7 overall and 6-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Bulldogs are 4-15 overall, 1-6 in the SoCon. The Phoenix held a 38-30 lead with the clock winding down in the first half before The Citadel guard Marshall Harris III hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to cut the lead to 38-33. In the second half, Elon maintained the lead throughout, but the Bulldogs fought back to within two five minutes into the half and within four with five minutes left, but the lead held up for the Phoenix. The Phoenix got 14 points and four rebounds from junior forward Lucas Troutman, who scored in double-digits for the 18th straight game. The Citadel was led by center Mike Groselle's 20 points and nine rebounds, while guard Matt Van Scyoc added 20 points for the Bulldogs. Elon face the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Jan.
