From Africa to America: Elon brings two students back together

They say distance can bring people closer and even make the heart grow fonder. Two Elon University sophomores, Valeria Rizzi and Nathaniel Henderson, are living proof as they formed their relationship in high school in Morocco, maintained it after he moved to Texas and are continuing it while sophomores at Elon. For Rizzi’s sophomore year of high school, her father signed into an expatriate job that caused them to move to Morocco.

Stanford professor discusses political divides in United States federal legislature

As election season swings into season around Elon University, a visitor from the opposite coast chose an apt time speak to students about the growing political divide in the United States. Professor Doug McAdam from Stanford University visited Elon University on Monday evening to talk about the growing political divide in the United States legislature and the current threats to democracy in America that he discuses in his recently co-authored book, “Deeply Divided America: Racial Politics and Social Movements in the Post-War Era.” “When former president Jimmy Carter said America no longer has a functioning democracy, people thought he was crazy,” McAdam said.

Public transportation is coming to Alamance County

Burlington and Gibsonville are partnering up to bring a public transportation system to Alamance County. Although the Elon Board of Aldermen voted against the Burlington public transportation proposal earlier this month, the new plans will still affect many in the community. "There are places that are just too far to walk," said Alamance County resident Nathan Wood.

Elon lacks tempo in scoreless draw with James Madison

It was a beautiful fall day for Sunday, Oct. 26’s men’s soccer matchup between the Elon University Phoenix and the James Madison University Dukes. The play of both teams, though, was rather lackluster in a 0-0 draw at Rudd Field. Coming off a big win against Duke University last Wednesday, the Phoenix struggled to generate any tempo throughout the match against a James Madison team that appeared to be inferior on paper. The Dukes dominated the Elon side of the field for a vast majority of the first half.
