CrossRoads organizes Denim Day dinner, fashion show

On April 29, over 200 attendees filled the Ramada Inn Convention Center for CrossRoads’ annual Denim Day dinner and fashion show. The event was primarily a fundraiser for CrossRoads Sexual Assault Response & Resource Center, with sponsors, raffles and on-site donations encouraged, but it also served to unite the Alamance area around sexual assault prevention.

Fire code violations strain university, town relations

The town of Elon and Elon university are mending relationships and working on more effective communication following a dispute that prompted Elon University to halt all payments to the town. The rollout of a new fire inspection process revealed code violations, which the university had not addressed.

Elon alums share first-hand reactions to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting

Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday evening. There were over 2,000 people at the dinner, including Elon alums. Seated on the ground level, Annemarie Bonner ‘23 said she first wasn’t sure what she had heard, but when she realized it was gunshots, the night turned into her worst nightmare.

Chabad Elon marks rare Torah dedication with community celebration

A Torah scroll mascot and music greeted community members as Chabad Elon celebrated the dedication of two Sifrei Torah scrolls April 26. Outside, tables were set up for younger children to participate in arts and crafts activities while Elon University students and adults listened to opening remarks by Rabbi Mendy Minkowitz.

Elon baseball gets swept by UNC Wilmington

The Elon University baseball team was defeated by the University of North Carolina Wilmington, 8-1 for their 26th loss of the season. The Phoenix struggled to keep up with the Seahawks’ hitting as they fell behind early and couldn’t muster any momentum.

Rising defensive mind joins Elon football coaching staff

Elon has hired experienced defensive coach Jalen Hairston to lead its secondary. Hairston comes to Elon after many years of success in Division II football. He joins the Phoenix coaching staff after spending the past two seasons as the defensive backs coach for the University of Maine. While there, he also served as the safeties coach and defensive passing game coordinator for the Black Bears. Before he was a coach, Hairston played three seasons with the University of Charleston from 2015-2018.

Former Elon University student arrested for sexual exploitation charge

A Burlington man, who previously attended Elon University, was arrested April 21 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Nikolaos Alexander Fotiou, 18, was taken to the Alamance County Detention Center and is being held there under no bond, as of April 24. According to a Burlington Police Department press release, the Invictus Task Force aided with the investigation.

Meet Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Prize winners

Fifteen students have been selected to receive $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years as a part of the Lumen Prize. The 2026 Lumen Scholar winners will work closely with their mentors on their projects during their junior and senior years.

Celebration, education meet at Elon’s Earth Fest, Party For the Planet

Students packed the Global Neighborhood concourse for sushi, sliders and a chance to pet Pearl — a cow that has quietly become a staple of Elon University’s Earth Week. The Office of Sustainability and Elon Dining partnered to host two annual events, Party for the Planet and Earth Fest, bringing students together to celebrate nature while highlighting campus sustainability initiatives.

‘First Daughter Suite’ creates historical fantasia for audiences

From one scene to the next everyday arguments bleed into turning a first lady into a duck and killing someone with a doll. Audiences will explore the inner lives of the first ladies and daughters of United States presidents in Elon University’s production of “First Daughter Suite.” The musical, written by Michael John Lachuisa, will be performed in Roberts Studio Theatre from May 1 to 3.
