Elon purchases land for proposed convocation center

Elon University announced Tuesday it has purchased 19.5 acres of land just west of campus as the preferred site of the proposed convocation center. The land is west of Hunt Softball Park and the adjacent parking lot on North Williamson Avenue. According to a release, the purchase is being funded by a gift from Furman Moseley ‘56 and his wife Susan, for whom the Moseley Center is named after.

Elon Votes! pushes students to register for change

After a campus-wide push for voter registration stemming from Sept. 22’s National Voter Registration Day, Elon University propelled itself into the top 25 Turbo Vote schools across the nation Sunday. With 296 students, or 5.2 percent of campus, that registered to vote during the push, groups on campus invested in shaping civic engagement hope to maintain the momentum in the following weeks.

State legislature gives OK to ride-sharing service regulations

Ride-sharing services like Uber, Lyft and Sidecar are one step away from state regulations after the North Carolina House voted Thursday in favor of a bill that would set standards for driver background checks and company coverage on drivers’ cars.   The bill, which would also require ride-sharing services to pay $5,000 in annual state permit fees, easily passed the House and has also received Senate approval.

Former Elon University student arrested for sexual exploitation charge

A Burlington man, who previously attended Elon University, was arrested April 21 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Nikolaos Alexander Fotiou, 18, was taken to the Alamance County Detention Center and is being held there under no bond, as of April 24. According to a Burlington Police Department press release, the Invictus Task Force aided with the investigation.

Meet Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Prize winners

Fifteen students have been selected to receive $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years as a part of the Lumen Prize. The 2026 Lumen Scholar winners will work closely with their mentors on their projects during their junior and senior years.
