Benevolence Farm: Re-entry program for incarcerated women

Just 17 miles from Elon exists 13 acres of farmland. But unlike the other 8 million acres of farmland in North Carolina, this plot of land hopes to transform the lives of women. "The farm will serve as housing as well as employment for women who are coming out of and returning to the community from prison," said Tanya Jisa, Executive Director of Benevolence Farm. All over campus, students are starting their own clothing companies, creating graphic design freelance work and working with non-profits Some of these students see an issue and instead of accepting it is wrong and ignoring the problem, they attempt to change it.

Voting rights rally rocks Raleigh

Cries of, “Forward together, not one step back” rang through the streets of downtown Raleigh yesterday, where hundreds gathered for a voting rights rally. The state’s capitol was the terminus of the day’s leg of America's Journey for Justice, an 860-mile march from Selma to Washington, D.C., sponsored by the NAACP and a broad coalition of partner organizations.The marchers are spending 10 days in North Carolina to draw attention to its voting right record. “It’s time to call names,” said state NAACP conference president the Rev. William Barber II. “Tom Tillis pushed through the worst voter suppression in the country.”

Multi-Faith SAGES come to Elon University

We are looking for motivated, great students to take part in a new Truitt Center program at Elon University called Multi-Faith SAGES. SAGES is for students who love religious diversity; who want to know more about their own religious and spiritual traditions, practices and beliefs and who want also to know how to interact respectfully with others.
