The Athletic Department is looking for a new head coach after Dave Blank announced the resignation of Chris Polk today.
Administrative changes have been made in the office of Student Life, according to an e-mail sent to Elon Faculty and Staff members, and will become effective immediately. Jon Dooley, former Vice President for Student Life and Dean of students, as of this morning, notified the Elon Faculty and Staff that he will no longer serve as the Dean of Students and will now only serve as the Vice President for Student Life.
An e-mail was sent out earlier this morning that instructed all Elon faculty members to reset their Elon password immediately.
Molly Offstein is leaving the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to receive treatment at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in her home state of Maryland, according to a Facebook post from her father, Evan Offstein. Offstein is still recovering after being hit by a car in March. The post provided an update on Offstein's health, explaining that her physical health is improving, but she has not showed signs of any significant recovery from her traumatic brain injury (TBI). She has not exited a vegetative state.
One member of the Elon University women’s track and field has qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships in Eugene, Oregon. Junior Bryanna Hames is the first athlete in program history to qualify after finishing 11th overall in the discus at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday, May 26.
Almost a month after two former Elon University football players were charged in court with felony secret peeping, a third has been charged in an alleged connection with the same case.
Belk Library will receive a $5 million upgrade following a gift from two Elon parents. The addition will consolidate the offices of academic advising, tutoring, and disability services into one building. The expansion will take the form of a two-story, 11,000-square-foot annex on the east side of the Carol Grotnes Belk library.

Aside from the conferring of almost 1,400 degrees, Elon University's 127th Commencement ceremony yesterday saw two speeches partially spoken in Spanish, a New York Giants ballon strapped to a tassel, and a successful marriage proposal. It was anything but conventional. Headlined by Univision reporter Maity Interiano's '07 as the keynote speaker, the Emmy-winning journalist challenged the graduating Class of 2017 to be fearless, take chances, and embrace adversity. "More than ever we are seeing young people going after ther dreams," Interinano said.
Traditions have long been a staple of the culture at Elon University — among them is the annual Commencement “Under the Oaks.” But despite its long history, commencement will no longer be held “Under the Oaks.” According to Executive Director of Cultural and Special Programs Jeff Clark, commencement will be located on Scott Plaza for the foreseeable future.
Walking down the aisle at Elon University’s 127th Commencement will be senior Haley Longbottom, a member of the first class of Communication Design majors since the program was created in 2014.

Elon University President Leo Lambert knew when he announced he’d step down this year, he would embark on a journey of doing everything for the last time. THIRD FLOOR, ELON TOWN CENTER — All I wanted to do was cover some Elon sporting events. I had dreams of sitting in press boxes over campus and across the region, chowing down on all the food I could get my hands on and writing about Elon’s athletic highs and lows. I couldn’t have imagined the lengths to which student media would strech and push me to grow into a versatile journalist who’s as well-versed in what kerning and inch-counts are as the format of VOSOTs and NAT pops. I’ll look back on my four years with student media at Elon fondly, thinking of the amazing colleagues and advisers, the dozens of ridiculous inside jokes and the transformation we underwent from two separate legacy media organizations to one merged, digital-first news network. Or should I say mobile-first? From being deemed the “Future of The Pendulum” while I covered my first sporting event (hat tip and hair sniff to you, Matt Krause and Adam Smith), to lengthy small talk conversations about nothing with Colin to later being tasked with leading the merger of The Pendulum and Elon Local News, it’s been a special ride filled with red ball, ill-advised trips to Smitty’s for milkshakes and just a few uses of the salute, “Greetings!” There have been trips to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, where I’m still wondering how Michael and I ran into Colin and Uncle Tommy at the Bier Garden.
Senior Women’s basketball forward Lauren Brown has an impressive statistics sheet on the court, but her academic skills are just as awe-inspiring. Brown walked into an empty Alumni Gym in a dress and heels she is wearing due to a prior speaking engagement at a women’s philanthropy event. She entered the gym as confident and poised in business attire as she seems to be in a uniform on game day.
In 2014, 39.8 million United States households, more than a third of all, were housing cost-burdened, according to the Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies. The U.S. Conference of Mayors has cited affordable housing as the leading cause of homelessness. To raise awareness for this issue, after graduation senior Jack Pasi will hit the road with his girlfriend Charolotte Robin in a 48-square-foot tiny home on an 11,000 mile cross-country journey towed by 2005 Honda Pilot in a project called “Coast to Coast, Cote a Cote.”
SGA Class of 2017 President Kelsea Johnson will be speaking at Commencement on May 20, 2017. Johnson said, “I think this previous term was extremely successful. We had a lot of forward movement as an organization.”
CHAPEL HILL — The Elon University women’s lacrosse team dug a hole that proved too deep to climb out of Friday afternoon, falling to the University of Virginia 11-9 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Chapel Hill. In the fourth-year program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, Elon saw the Cavaliers burst out of the gates in each half, scoring the first four goals of the match, including two on counterattacks.
