With her final season on Elon’s women’s basketball team underway, graduate student Evonna McGill continues to be a leader on the court, even as she prepares for her future off of it. But McGill said she has come a long way with Elon since transferring from University of North Carolina Asheville and meeting Elon women’s basketball head coach Charlotte Smith.

Elon men’s basketball knew it had a lot on its plate following an array of changes after its last season: new head coach Billy Taylor, several players transferring out and five new freshmen, including two walk-ons. Taylor said the first thing he wanted to do when he got here was set a new standard for the basketball program.

A young Elon University women’s basketball team jumped into its season earlier in November after months of off-season preparation. As the 14-player roster welcomed a total of eight freshmen, two of whom are redshirts, head coach Charlotte Smith said this off-season’s preparation meant more than the years prior.

The Festival of Lights and Luminaries once again brought together the Elon University campus and surrounding community in celebration of different cultures, religions and traditions. The annual campus tradition highlights the diverse cultures and spiritualities both around the world and at Elon.

Elon’s Human Anatomy Lab works with anatomical donors who dedicate their bodies to the Anatomical Gift Program, which allows students and professors to study donors for science and education after death. At the end of each semester, students and professors gather to pay their respects to and honor the lives of their “silent teachers” — a term given to the donors because of the nature of how students and professors learn from them.

Elon University’s campus will shine bright with lights Tuesday for its annual Festival of Lights and Luminaries. The campus tradition, held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., is a space where students and community members can learn about the diverse religions, cultures and traditions represented on Elon’s campus.

The Elon University men's basketball team picked up its sixth loss of the season on Sunday, falling 69-53 to Radford University. After coming out hot to start the game, Elon quickly lost traction, being out scored 28-18 to finish the half after leading 11-2 early.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Elon University football team fell in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs against Furman University 31-6 on Saturday, ending its 2022 season. The contest was Elon’s first playoff game since 2018.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Elon University men’s basketball team traveled to PNC Arena to take on North Carolina State in its first road game of the season on Saturday. The Phoenix battled for two halves but eventually fell 74-63. Head coach Billy Taylor said playing against an Atlantic Coastal Conference opponent was a good challenge for the team.

Elon University’s women’s tennis team has a lot to look forward to in the spring. Freshmen Madison Cordisco and Helen Sarikulaya, both five-star recruits according to The Tennis Recruiting Network, are two of the highest ranked players the program has ever seen. Their skill translated fast, as they posted a combined 14-2 record in singles and 5-1 playing doubles together.

Rudd Field was flooded on Thursday night with cheering fans as the Elon University men’s soccer team finished off its season with a 1-0 loss in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament against the No. 9 Marshall University Thundering Herd. It was Elon’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
