Elon LEADS, Elon University’s largest fundraising campaign raised over $260 million at its conclusion Dec. 31, 2022, Elon University President Connie Book announced Jan. 12. The total surpassed the goal of $250 million.

While menorah lightings have happened for several years at the Chabad Elon Jewish Student Center’s off-campus house at the menorah displayed year-round, the town of Elon will hold its first public menorah lighting at 5 p.m. Dec. 18 in the town center.

Meredith Smith, former Elon University admissions staff member, died unexpectedly on Nov. 27 at 35 years old. Smith started her work in admissions as an undergraduate student and worked with the university for over 18 years.

Elon’s Human Anatomy Lab works with anatomical donors who dedicate their bodies to the Anatomical Gift Program, which allows students and professors to study donors for science and education after death. At the end of each semester, students and professors gather to pay their respects to and honor the lives of their “silent teachers” — a term given to the donors because of the nature of how students and professors learn from them.

Elon University’s campus will shine bright with lights Tuesday for its annual Festival of Lights and Luminaries. The campus tradition, held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., is a space where students and community members can learn about the diverse religions, cultures and traditions represented on Elon’s campus.
