Shooting struggles continue as Elon falls to Charleston

Elon, N.C. - For the second time in as many games, poor shooting and lackluster defense plagued the Elon University Men's Basketball team as the Phoenix struggled to convert offensive opportunities in a 66-50 home loss against College of Charleston on Wednesday night. Elon seemed to lack energy throughout, as Charleston put its foot on the gas early and never let up, getting its first win since Dec.

Elon quarterback Loughery to transfer

Elon University quarterback John Loughery has left the school and will transfer, team spokesman Chris Rash confirmed Wednesday. Loughery had two years of eligibility remaining after redshirting the 2012 season and serving as Mike Quinn's backup for the past two years.

Memorial gathering for dead Elon junior set for Monday evening

POST LAST UPDATED: Tuesday, Jan. 13 8:05 p.m. Elon University junior Trent Stetler, an economics major and active member of the club rugby team, has died due to a suspected suicide, according to Smith Jackson, vice president for student life. In a recent interview, Jackson said he first received word of the incident Sunday morning, but did not confirm the cause or time of Stetler's death.

Jeffrey Cook's reaction to father being 2015 commencement speaker

Dad, political correspondent and commencement speaker. All three titles describe Elon's 2015 Commencement speaker, Charlie Cook. But there will be one graduating student in the audience who calls him first and foremost, dad. Death of Elon junior Trent Stetler

Article updated 5:50 p.m. According to an email sent Sunday Jan. 11 from Dean of Students Smith Jackson, Elon junior Trent Stetler has died. Dean Jackson's email says the Burlington police are still investigating, but say Stetler appears to have taken his own life. Elon Local News spoke to Dean Jackson Sunday night.

Elon's guard combo of four-time CAA Rookie of the Week Elijah Bryant and junior Tanner Samson combined to shoot just 4-of-26 from the field, including a 3-of-16 clip from beyond the three-point line as the Phoenix fell to 10-7 (2-2 CAA) on the season. "We didn't get enough open shots," Elon head coach Matt Matheny said.

Hundreds attend Stuart Scott's funeral in Raleigh

The funeral for longtime ESPN anchor Stuart Scott was held Saturday morning at the Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh. Scott, who grew up in Winston-Salem and attended UNC Chapel Hill, lost his battle to cancer Sunday Jan.
