Elder Law Clinic meets growing need in Guilford County

Since it began taking cases Aug. 15, the Elder Law Clinic at the Elon School of Law has received over 90 calls from low-income senior residents in Guilford County seeking legal aid with issues such as power of attorney, Social Security and Medicaid benefits and end of life planning. The clinic was developed this summer to meet the needs of the county’s growing senior demographic, according to Margaret Kantlehner, director of the clinic. “There was a consensus that there was more need than could be met,” she said.

Position changes follow loss of last year’s seniors

The losses of setter Megan McMahon and outside hitter/middle blocker Caroline Lemke leave big holes in both Elon University women’s volleyball’s offense and defense.  Although head women’s volleyball coach Mary Tendler said she will miss their leadership and what they could do on the court for the team, she feels good about the players she has now. “They are ready to take on bigger roles and get more playing time and help the team win,” Tendler said.

Summer internships offer insight into career ambitions, alternative paths

In addition to warm weather and relaxation, internships are often an integral part of summer for an Elon University student. With the fall semester underway, many students are using their summer internship experiences to guide them in their future academic and career endeavors. Senior Heather Olin, a communications major, spent the summer earning academic credit as a press intern for the upcoming Woodstock Film Festival. “I enjoyed the film aspects of my job and respect what the festival does,” Olin said.

Elon volleyball sweeps North Carolina A&T in first home match

The Elon women’s volleyball team won its first match Wednesday night against North Carolina A&T three games to zero. Freshman Ana Nicksic started as setter this match and had 21 assists. She said she was excited to be out on the court for the first home match. “We prepared all preseason and I’m happy I had the chance to be out there,” Nicksic said.

Move-In Day Wrap-Up

Elon first-years arrived on campus this past Friday and it was a day filled with excitement. Incoming student Arthur Tildesley shared with us why he chose Elon and what he plans on becoming involved with during his Freshman year. "I visited here and I fell in love," he said. Some of Elon's most important figures were seen around campus talking to new students and parents.

Elon adds new programs in compliance with Title IX

There are several initiatives going on all around campus that are focusing on inclusion and Elon is adding new programs to campus this fall handling sexual harassment. "It was really time for this and it was an important institutional priority," said Leigh-Anne Royster, Director of Health Services and Health Promotion at Elon. For the first time this fall, students can use the internet to make a report of sexual or bias harassment.
