Elon University head coach Jason Swepson said today that junior running back Matt Eastman might miss the rest of the season.

"He's going to get surgery on his knee in the next day or so," Swepson said after Tuesday's practice. "That will set him back another three or four weeks, and we'll go from there."

Eastman has not played a snap this season, as he has been dealing with a leg injury. He was expected to be the starting running back for the Phoenix this year, but injured his leg during a preseason scrimmage. Sophomore Karl Bostick and freshman Tracey Coppedge have split time as the main rushers for the Phoenix.

Eastman was slated to play against Georgia Southern University this past Saturday, but suffered a setback during warm-ups and did not take the field.

"He had a great week of practice and he was ready to go. Then the knee locked up," Swepson said. "(I'm) disappointed for him because he's worked hard."

Swepson said the injury was a torn meniscus and that the injury would likely require major surgery at the end of the season.

Eastman was watched Tuesday's practice sans-pads with an ice pack around his leg.
