Two words that everyone wants to hear, but never get said enough: thank you. Elon's "A Thousand Thanks" campaign kicked off last week with the mission to collect more than a thousand hand-written thank-you notes to Elon donors. Students who participated were given a card in which they could write their own message to an Elon donor chosen at random. Amanda Zamzes graduated from Elon in 2008 and returned just a year later to work for the university. "As an Elon Alum, an Elon donor and an Elon staff person, I've realized what it takes, in very short part to run this university," Zamzes said. Zamzes' new found appreciation for donors led her to start the push for "A Thousand Thanks." "I am so lucky to have gone to school here, to study here and now to work here because I have had so many doors opened to me through donors contributions," Zamzes said.

It wasn’t easy, but the Elon University men’s soccer team escaped Rudd Field Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Davidson College Wildcats in front of a raucous crowd of 717, whom senior forward Chris Thomas credited with helping his team battle back from a goal down to win their first round Southern Conference tournament game. “By 20 minutes left in the second half we had the twelfth man on the field,” Thomas said.
From one-third of staff succumbing to bird flu to an active shooter on campus, Elon University has a plan to address emergency situations of all kinds. Although Elon has not adopted social media into its emergency plan, Chris Fulkerson, Elon’s chief information officer, is still confident in the university’s system. According to a recent USA Today article, many schools are implementing social media – mainly Twitter and Facebook – into their emergency response plans.
SUDETENLAND, CZECH REPUBLIC — I remember sitting at my cramped desk early one morning in Copenhagen attempting to wrap my head around the concept of the Sudetenland Transfers.
An election season inevitably brings much debate and discussion, especially with such different candidates to choose from.
Contrary to popular belief, citizens of the United States do not directly elect people to the highest office in the land.
Time’s running out, but the cam- paigns for President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney have not stopped fighting for their shares of electoral votes in the swing states. North Carolina is one of the battle- ground states that’s been pegged as “lean- ing Republican,” but there’s no way to tell which way the state will actual- ly vote until tomorrow, Election Day. If campaign donations were any indica- tion, Obama would take the state by a land- slide, as he raised more than $1.1 million here in September alone, while Romney pulled in less than $500,000.
