Elon University fashionistas and fashionisters – Spring has sprung. It’s just about time for us to pack away the boots, coats and scarves and make room in our closets for runway-inspired spring must-haves that are still appropriate for the busy college students of Elon’s campus.

Ladies:

Stripes- Up and down, side to side, curved, zigzagged, chevron or even a mix of a few, stripes are making a statement this spring. Of every width and color, be sure to add some lines to your wardrobe this season. Blouses, maxi dresses, shirts and more are perfect to rock this trend.

Cutouts- While exposed patches of skin at the chest, waist, and back might not be the most appropriate for English class, cutouts are a must have for party attire. This spring 2013 trend can be tastefully done without overexposure; for daytime, cutouts at the shoulders are stylish and tame enough for attending class or a meeting. Keyhole cutouts in the back of blouses and dresses are also a great way to wear this spring trend.

Lace- Delicate fabrics such as lace, sheer veiling, eyelets, and embroideries bring a soft touch to this season’s style. Not only do these fabrics offer feminine detail, they offer a great texture that can be paired with pants, shorts or skirts. On those hot spring days, a lace dress can be an easy and breathable option to pair with some sandals and a bag and head to class or dinner.

Florals- A seemingly reoccurring spring staple, this year’s floral trend may surprise you. Erase your preconceived notions of florals and embrace this year’s vision of bold abstract petals that are sure to pop. Let your clothes act as a canvas with floral patterns paired with texture and neon, large printed floral blouses, dresses and skirts to mix fashion with high art.

White- So long winter white and hello sun-bleached blanch. This spring is all about structured white looks. Fitted white jackets, stark collars and tailored bottoms bring class and sophistication to the warmer months. This clean look is great for making a statement.

Men:

Floral Tie- Bring a simple look to life with a tasteful floral tie. Pair this must-have article with a solid shirt and jacket and avoid mixing busy, messy patterns. Whether it is bright and bold, soft and pastel or cool and dark, this piece is sure to brighten up your outfit.

Loafers- Put a little spring in your step this spring while remaining comfortable. The shoe of this season is the loafer. While classically thought to be strictly casual, the loafer can be dressed up or down and still provide great – and comfy – style.

Chalky or Pastel- Commonly referred to as pastel, the more manly term “chalky” colors is huge for guys this spring. Whether it’s a button-down, shorts or a tie, chalky colors can add spring flair to any outfit. Don’t be afraid to venture over to colors like pink, mint and robin’s egg.
