Phoenix football prepares for offseason

It is often said that winning comes in the offseason for many sports teams. It is the time that players build bonds with teammates and coaches and the previous seasons’ glories and failures are washed away and the team gets a clean slate. For the Elon University football team, the offseason is a time to improve in ways that are not accessible during the season. “Being here a year now, the players are more comfortable with the schemes in all three phases of the game,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Repairs underway on South Campus burst pipe

Cleanup is underway in the aftermath of a frozen pipe that burst in the attic of the neuroscience lab on South Campus last week, adding another item to Physical Plant's mounting weather-related to-do list. The lab, located in the Psychology and Human Services building, sustained extensive damage Feb.

Oscars 'Little Red Riding Hood' identified as an Elon student

STORY UPDATED 2/23/15 at 9:04 P.M. Dubbed "Little Red Riding Hood" by the media, the mysterious hooded figure prowling the red carpet at the Oscars Sunday night has been identified as Alyssa Shiller, an Elon University sophomore spending the semester in Los Angeles with the Elon in LA program.  After Shiller successfully photo-bombed star-studded attendees, including acclaimed actress Reese Witherspoon, and drew snickers from the crowd, the Internet buzzed with questions of who she was and why she was there.

Heart health starts now for college students

February is known in commercial America as a time for hearts, love, Valentine's, lots of red and, of course, lots of sweet treats. However for the medical community, February is Heart Month, a time to encourage Americans to take care of their hearts, regardless of their age or background. According to the Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in America. For college students, like sophomore Nick Zimmerman, 20, taking care of the heart is an every day battle. Zimmerman said he has supraventricular tachycardia, a heart condition that cause abnormal heart rhythms. "Basically most people have one electrical path around their heart so it just goes around both chambers.

Anonymous website gives Greek life a rating

Kasey Sullivan, the former head of Panhellenic Recruitment, said the website Greek Rank has become a sounding board for individuals to express their dislike towards Greek life. "I think that is just another form of cyberbullying" she said. Current chair of Panhellenic Recruitment, Courtney Sola, agreed. "None of the comments that are made really speak to the values of any organization and it doesn't speak to their sisterhood," she said. The website allows anyone to anonymously rank Greek organizations based on six qualities: looks, popularity, classiness, involvement, social life, and brotherhood for fraternities and sisterhood for sororities. "Looks, popularity, that is just not important when joining a sisterhood.

Elon University announces 2026 Lumen Scholar winners

Fifteen students have been granted $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years after the Lumen Advisory Committee announced Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Scholar winners. Director of the Lumen Prize Michael Carignan said the committee had to make very difficult decisions because there were many strong proposals submitted this year.

Main Street Vinyl celebrates Record Store Day

Whether they were crate-digging for something rare or just soaking in the vibe, attendees lined the street bright and early for some fun. Burlington record store, Main Street Vinyl, participated in celebrating Record Store Day on Saturday, April 18th. Inspired by the nationally recognized day, the record store offered limited edition albums only available in independent record stores, as opposed to mainstream ‘box’ stores.
