Students enjoy decline in gas prices

In recent months, consumers across the country have been enjoying lower prices at the pump as a result of booming production in the Midwest and dropping crude futures worldwide. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average per gallon of gasoline has dropped below $3.00 per gallon for the first time in nearly four years.

Recap of Community Connections forum, Alamance County: 2030

Community Connections brought together a panel on Feb. 4, to discuss what Alamance County's future might look like in the year 2030. The panel consisted of: David Cheek, Mebane City Manager; April Durr, Director of Community Impact, United Way of Alamance County; Ryan Kirk, Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies; and Amy Nelson, Director of Burlington Planning and Economic Development. Dr. Jason Husser, the Assistant Director of the Elon Poll, encouraged the audience, Alamance County residents and Elon students, to ask the panel about their concerns for the future of Alamance County. Concerns that came up in the discussion included gun violence, a developing Burlington, a hurting public school system and what all of that meant for economic tourism, resident job opportunities, as well as resident security and the environments security. While Nelson spoke of the vast developments occurring in the city of Burlington, Kirk said there is an estimated total of a 6 percent change in population age groups. As Burlington develops, high paying jobs and careers are still scarce in Alamance County.

Staff scrambles to bring students back to Elon amidst delays

As many students, faculty and staff returned from Elon University Study Abroad and Study USA programs, they were greeted by a traveler’s worst nightmare: a record-breaking series of winter storms. Winter Storm Juno, accompanied by other winter storms in the Northeast region, have caused havoc across the nation, affecting the lives of millions of people and testing the patience of travelers.

Sweet-shooting Northeastern drops Elon under .500

BOSTON-- A strong offensive performance by the duo of Zach Stahl and Scott Eatherton and a hot shooting hand by the rest the Northeastern University men's basketball team led the Huskies to a big 80-61 win over Elon University on Saturday night in Boston. Stahl and Eatherton combined to score 35 points on 16-of-18 shooting and Northeastern made 60 percent of its shots on the night to give Elon its sixth loss in the last seven games. With the win, the Huskies improve to 15-8 (7-3 CAA) and while the Phoenix drops to 11-12 (3-7 CAA). A 16-3 run heading into halftime propelled Northeastern to a 15 point halftime advantage, a deficit Elon was unable to overcome.

Former Elon University student arrested for sexual exploitation charge

A Burlington man, who previously attended Elon University, was arrested April 21 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Nikolaos Alexander Fotiou, 18, was taken to the Alamance County Detention Center and is being held there under no bond, as of April 24. According to a Burlington Police Department press release, the Invictus Task Force aided with the investigation.

Meet Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Prize winners

Fifteen students have been selected to receive $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years as a part of the Lumen Prize. The 2026 Lumen Scholar winners will work closely with their mentors on their projects during their junior and senior years.
