The Truitt Center held their first Winterfaith Lunch and Learn event of the semester at the Elon Community Church today, Jan. 8. The series, which takes place every Wednesday during winter term, allows the Elon community to come together, enjoy lunch and challenge themselves to learn about more about religions.

Rev. John G. Truitt, distinguished Elon alumnus, died today at age 81. Truitt graduated from Elon in 1953 and died after a lengthy illness, according to an E-Net article.

Meals On Wheels is an organization in Alamance County that started 41 years ago. At the time, the organization delivered 15 meals a day, Monday through Friday, to people in need. Now, volunteers of the organization delivers more than 300 meals a day.

More than 2000 participants: volunteers and children, came to The Tanglewood Festival of Lights in Clemmons, N.C. on Nov. 16. But it wasn't just to welcome the holiday season. Instead, they came to Walk for Wishes, a 5K-walk fundraiser to help raise money for the local branch of Make-A-Wish. They raised $120,000, which will go toward granting wishes for more than 200 children in the local community.

This past summer, the North Carolina General Assembly altered the face of public education through various budget cuts, program changes and salary adjustments. Walking onto the make-shift construction site in Elon Elementary School's parking lot early Saturday morning, John Barnhill seemed like every other alumni. Little did the volunteers know that Barnhill was actually the reason the organization even existed. With Homecoming last weekend, Habitat for Humanity held this special build for graduates to come build and meet current students.

Ian Baltutis may have lost the 2013 bid for Burlington's mayoral office, but he still has plans for developing downtown Burlington. The 2008 Elon graduate walked the streets of Burlington in his campaign for mayor, travelling door to door on foot to meet voters, a strategy he said helped get people to the polls.
