No funny business here: Amy Poehler and Nick Kroll call it quits

Comedians, Amy Poehler and Nick Kroll are done after two years of dating.  US Weekly reported that the couple simply couldn't make it work due to their busy schedules, a source exclusively told US Weekly.  "Unfortunately, they just couldn't make the relationship work with their schedules," said one insider to the magazine who was close with both comedians.  Amy and Nick's love couldn't last because of their constantly busy schedules.  "They really tried, but it just wasn't realistic anymore," adds the source.

Elon University’s semiannual Job and Internship Expos offer students of all years opportunities to interact with potential employers. But these expos, including yesterday’s, have consistently focused on business students, with communications students receiving comparatively little attention and students of other schools receiving even less.

Phoenix suffers first loss of season against South Carolina

On the heels of its highest ranking in program history, the No. 8 Elon University men’s soccer team lost for the first time in 2015, losing 3-1 to the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.   A second half brace from junior midfielder Danny Deakin sank the Phoenix after senior midfielder Eduardo Alvarez leveled the match at one apiece in the 50th minute. The win drops Elon to 7-1, while the win brings South Carolina to 4-2-1.  The Phoenix’s first chance of the game came from a shot by senior midfielder Miguel Salazar in the fifth minute, but his effort from the top of the box was blocked by the Gamecocks defense.

Religion’s lack of authenticity causing lack of influence in American society

Nearly three-quarters of the public think that religion is losing influence in American life. According to a recent poll by Pew Research Center that number rose 5 percentage points since 2010, and the majority of people see that as a bad thing. “A religion as defined in this particular survey has to do with the worship of a deity with a set of rituals with an agreed upon set of moral laws,” said Anthony Hatcher, Associate Professor of Communications at Elon University.

Shawn Humphrey, associate professor of economics at the University of Maryland, is a man of hard work, mobilizing grassroots movements on a budget and “do-gooding” in business. Thursday, Sept. 24, he will share his personal pedagogy of “Tribal Teaching” — an entrepreneurial approach involving student autonomy, authority and responsibility — “Do-Goodernomics” and microfinance, or the financial services to low-income individuals, with Elon University students.

Sports LLC should be less restrictive

If it had been available when I was a freshman, I absolutely would have applied. But the Sports, Participation & Networking (SPN) Living Learning Community (LLC), which is focused on sports and ties in with the Sport and Event Management (SEM) department, is new to Elon University this year. According to its page on Elon’s website, those in the SPN will “participate in intramural sports on campus as well as attend local sporting events” and “plan social events that interest them and engage with faculty members ... outside of the classroom.” The description also mentions meet-and-greets with Elon coaches, group dinners and trips to events such as the ACC Tournament and minor league baseball games. Sounds great.

Campus reacts to Presidential Task Force findings

For years there has been a lot of conversation, both privately and publicly, about the divide of race and experiences on Elon's campus. Now, because of the results from the Presidential Task Force on Black Student, Faculty and Staff Experiences, the campus has solid data to back the claims that for a significant portion of Elon's Black students, faculty and staff, feels that Elon can be a drastically different place than their non-Black peers and colleagues. [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY0oZeNGDHM&noredirect=1&w=560&h=315] The task force is made up of alumni, students, faculty and staff and its goal is to implement policies and practices to make Elon more supportive and inclusive of the black community. Results gave insight and recommendations to issues like safety, inclusivity and overall community interactions.

Elon University dance team wins 2 national titles

The Elon dance team huddled on stage with linked arms, waiting to hear their placement in Division I pom at the 2026 National Dance Association’s College National Championships. When the announcer proclaimed Elon champions, the dancers burst into cheers, realizing they’d secured Elon’s first pom category win in program history. The next day, they became two-time national champions with a first place finish in Division I hip hop.

Dismissal of Leandro case concerns public school advocates

The Leandro Comprehensive Remedial Plan, a 2021 proposed public school funding plan to ensure North Carolina meets its educational standards as outlined in the state constitution, called for $5.5 billion over eight years. In Alamance County, the plan would have allocated $56.7 million to the Alamance-Burlington School System — a 38% budget increase as of 2022 — and $15.7 million to early education programs by 2028.
