The incredible journey: Elon students to embark across India unaided in Adventurists' Rickshaw Run

Most Elon University students are familiar with Bio-Carts, the small vehicles used by members of Elon’s maintenance staff to travel around campus. If you pluck this little electric vehicle out of the “Elon bubble” and place it in Northeast India, people would probably call it an auto rickshaw — a three-wheeled cabin vehicle that serves as an essential form of urban transport in many developing countries. This January during Winter Term, five Elon students will be driving two auto rickshaws nearly 2,000 miles in less than two weeks in an ultimate adventure called the Rickshaw Run in India. Seniors Maria Castine, Will Stirn, Ben Donahue, Jack Halligan and junior Jordan Nulsen will be making this journey.

Students, staff address causes of discrimination on campus

Students, faculty and staff at Elon University converged today to discuss the matter of diversity on campus in the wake of an incident of racial and religious bias. The forum was not only a response to the incident in which a Jewish student and a black student found a swastika, the letters “KKK” and male genitalia drawn on a whiteboard outside their dorm in Colonnades D. It was an effort to address the causes of the acts of discrimination and bias that have occurred on campus during the last several years. “The culture of apathy is part of the blame for something like this,” said sophomore Bobby King.

SGA Senate Recap: Sept. 27

At Thursday night’s SGA Senate meeting, a bill to “clarify and expand communication to students, faculty, and staff about acts of hate on campus” passed in a 36-5-2 vote. The bill was presented as a response to a recent bias incident in which Jewish student and a black student found a swastika, the letters “KKK” and male genitalia drawn on a whiteboard outside their dorm in Colonnades D.

Competition within Elon men's soccer pushes junior Jason Waterman forward

While Waterman has the job of filling the void left by Chris Thomas, who led the country in goals and points in 2012, following Thomas’ 23-goal season with one of his own isn’t what the forward is interested in. Community funds anti-child exploitation project

As a mother and Vice President of Development for the Invictus Project, Whitney Miller said there was no way she could ignore child exploitation. The Invictus Project is a nonprofit organization that supports the Invictus Task Force — a multiagency uniting Randolph, Alamance, Davidson and Forsyth County Sheriff's Offices with Homeland Security Investigations and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Freshman duo grows up fast for Phoenix

In a season defined by adjustment, opportunity and growth, two rookies have helped steady Elon women’s basketball when it mattered most. Freshman center Tamia Watkins controls the paint and freshman guard Ashanti Fox controls the pace. The rookies have combined to earn Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors for four straight weeks, going back to Jan. 19.
