What's up, doc? The Health Care bill is famous to some, infamous to others.

At the Jan. 24 Elon University budget forum, the budget committee proposed a salary pool of two percent, which will go toward raises for faculty and staff members. According to Tim Peeples, associate provost of academic affairs, one percent of the salary pool is distributed to faculty and staff members who have completed all necessary tasks required of them. The other one percent is used for merit and is distributed to faculty and staff members who have done excellent work. Peeples said the merit system acts as a motivator and helps reward faculty and staff members for excellent work. According to Peeples, the salary was not raised much this past year due to the conditions of the economy. The slight increase in tuition, however, now allows for a salary pool. Peeples said the primary method for adjusting compensation for faculty and staff members comes through a salary increase.
If you are a student or faculty member at Elon University, chances are you have at least caught the drift that the school has been positioning itself to lower its carbon footprint-- Elon, like many others, is going green. Last week, I covered the upcoming spring POWERless competition.

The current uprisings in Egypt have been making major national news lately. Have you been keeping up?
Here at Elon, one of the main goals of the administration is to make students "global citizens." I'm not really positive what they mean by that, but if they want students to be concerned about the world around them, both on a public and personal level, I think they've done a pretty good job.
Too bad money doesn't grow on trees. This week, after speaking with various administration heads, it is evident that Elon University is in budget mode.
Hello all, My name is Rachel Southmayd and I will serve as the Opinions editor for The Pendulum through the 2011 year.
After my second-ever production night, I can’t even begin to fathom how newspapers were printed back when type had to be set by hand.
Sunday evening was one of the best hockey moments in my entire life. I’ve had a few special hockey moments.
The first thing I heard at the NHL-All Star Game SuperSkills Competition was a guy asking for extra tickets.
Editor's Note: The Pendulum's resident hockey expert, Zach Horner puts in his two cents about Friday night's All-Star Draft, and where he sees each player going, as captains Nick Lindstrom and Eric Staal make their picks. You can tune in to the live draft on Versus at 8 PM on Friday night to see for yourself! Let me just go ahead and say ahead of time that I will probably be wrong about a lot of this.
Standing room only was the theme of the evening at Elon Tonight's season three premiere. The student-produced sketch comedy show had its first showing of the academic year at 9 p.m.
Transitioning back to a schedule from a long, relaxing winter break can be challenging, especially for a new staff at the newspaper.
Each New Year, people around the country make resolutions to lose weight, get fit and become healthier. Students at Elon University are no different. The result? Gym and fitness center traffic increases dramatically after students return to campus for winter term. I spoke to Ross Venturi, campus recreation team leader for fitness, who said choosing a time of day to work out during winter term is key.
The ice is on the ground and our classes have, yet again, been delayed. I spent my entire MLK holiday in the basement of McEwen, working on a project until it was dark.
Following the recent trend in distinguished grades at Elon University, 25 percent of grades given during the fall 2010 semester were A's while 12.8 percent were B's, bringing the standard GPA to 3.17. Steven House, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said his worries are more centered on the rise of A's and B's among students rather than the increased GPA. "The average grade percentage being 3.17 doesn't really bother me at all," House said.
In transitioning from fall to spring semester, the Bursar's office is responsible for compiling information concerning grade distributions and grade point averages.
By Michael Hermanson 3-1 last week, hitting 55% on the year, you better listen. Home team in CAPS PITTSBURGH (-3) over Baltimore If you’re even a slight sports fan, you’ve already heard that three points have decided the last four meetings between these two teams.
