Elon Theft Update

In the last two weeks, eight separate cases of theft have occurred near Elon's campus, and seven of the cases involved Elon students. In each incident, students had items taken directly out of their parked cars.

Gunpoint Robbery Follow-Up

The Elon Town Police have requested help from the NC State Bureau of Investigation with their investigation into the February 1st gunpoint robbery of an Elon student. They are still looking for three men who they believe are responsible, and recently released footage of a man connected to the crime.

New Dating App

It's being called "a fun way to break the ice," as well as the modern-day version of the game "hot or not". With Valentine's Day approaching, Tinder, a new dating app, is joining the online dating world. Sophomore Nevin Lally is a frequent user of the app.

Ross Wade to leave Elon after accepting new job at Duke

Ladies and gentlemen, Ross Wade is leaving the building. Wade, the assistant director of career services for Elon University's School of Communications, announced he will be leaving Elon March 1 to begin a new job at Duke University as assistant director of career services for the masters of engineering program. “This is a great opportunity to learn a lot of new skills,” Wade said.

Pope's resignation respected by Elon faculty, students

Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope in nearly 600 years to resign from the papacy Feb. 11, citing his advanced age as the catalyst for his decision. Benedict, 85, is the spiritual leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics across the world. Benedict began his papacy in 2005 after the near 30 year reign of Pope John Paul II.

Diet Drinking

Alcohol- some call it their only friend, others call it their guilty pleasure. According to SPARKS, a majority of Elon students drink at least once or less a week. "The majority of students who go out and drink are the students who will always be drinking," said Erica Young, SPARKS Peer Educator. Mixed drinks are becoming increasingly popular amongst college students.

Dual Degree Program

Although many Elon students choose to graduate early, one unique Elon program is designed for students to obtain their bachelor's degrees in only three years. The dual-degree engineering program allows students to receive their undergraduate degrees in three years and then go onto graduate school for engineering at a different university and receive their master's degrees in two years. Elon has a partnership with six universities that have distinguished engineering schools like North Carolina State University, Georgia Tech, and Columbia University.
