Walking down the aisle at Elon University’s 127th Commencement will be senior Haley Longbottom, a member of the first class of Communication Design majors since the program was created in 2014.
Maity Interiano ’07 said it will be an “emotional and special full-circle moment” to return with her family to Elon University’s campus as the Commencement speaker at Elon University’s 127th Commencement ceremony.
Elon University President Leo Lambert knew when he announced he’d step down this year, he would embark on a journey of doing everything for the last time. During this year’s commencement, he’ll most likely be addressing the community for a final time as President. But while he said it will be an emotional day for him, he doesn’t want the attention.
The story’s been told dozens of times, from meetings to presentations and speeches, and now, with special circumstances, it’s being told one last time. THIRD FLOOR, ELON TOWN CENTER — All I wanted to do was cover some Elon sporting events. I had dreams of sitting in press boxes over campus and across the region, chowing down on all the food I could get my hands on and writing about Elon’s athletic highs and lows. I couldn’t have imagined the lengths to which student media would strech and push me to grow into a versatile journalist who’s as well-versed in what kerning and inch-counts are as the format of VOSOTs and NAT pops. I’ll look back on my four years with student media at Elon fondly, thinking of the amazing colleagues and advisers, the dozens of ridiculous inside jokes and the transformation we underwent from two separate legacy media organizations to one merged, digital-first news network. Or should I say mobile-first? From being deemed the “Future of The Pendulum” while I covered my first sporting event (hat tip and hair sniff to you, Matt Krause and Adam Smith), to lengthy small talk conversations about nothing with Colin to later being tasked with leading the merger of The Pendulum and Elon Local News, it’s been a special ride filled with red ball, ill-advised trips to Smitty’s for milkshakes and just a few uses of the salute, “Greetings!” There have been trips to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas, where I’m still wondering how Michael and I ran into Colin and Uncle Tommy at the Bier Garden.
Senior Women’s basketball forward Lauren Brown has an impressive statistics sheet on the court, but her academic skills are just as awe-inspiring. Brown walked into an empty Alumni Gym in a dress and heels she is wearing due to a prior speaking engagement at a women’s philanthropy event. She entered the gym as confident and poised in business attire as she seems to be in a uniform on game day.
In 2014, 39.8 million United States households, more than a third of all, were housing cost-burdened, according to the Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies. The U.S. Conference of Mayors has cited affordable housing as the leading cause of homelessness. To raise awareness for this issue, after graduation senior Jack Pasi will hit the road with his girlfriend Charolotte Robin in a 48-square-foot tiny home on an 11,000 mile cross-country journey towed by 2005 Honda Pilot in a project called “Coast to Coast, Cote a Cote.”
SGA Class of 2017 President Kelsea Johnson will be speaking at Commencement on May 20, 2017. Johnson said, “I think this previous term was extremely successful. We had a lot of forward movement as an organization.”
CHAPEL HILL — The Elon University women’s lacrosse team dug a hole that proved too deep to climb out of Friday afternoon, falling to the University of Virginia 11-9 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Chapel Hill. In the fourth-year program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, Elon saw the Cavaliers burst out of the gates in each half, scoring the first four goals of the match, including two on counterattacks.
Elon University freshman Brendan Gallagher was arrested on May 6 for larceny of a hot dog. Gallagher was also charged with resisting arrest and consuming alcohol under the age of 21. According to Elon Town Police, Gallagher was eating the hot dog at Circle K, located at 110 W.
It's outgrown the church walls and has moved to Exit 140 on I-40 in Alamance County. The Burlington Revival is back for a second year, and the organizers say they expect it to be bigger than ever. Last year, New Hope Baptist Church in Burlington held a scheduled revival that was supposed to last 5 days.

Elon Sophomore Noah Roger was arrested on Thursday for felony possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver and felony keeping or maintaining a controlled substance for use, storage, or sale.
Elon University Sophomore Jordan Diamond was arrested on Friday, April 28 for felony possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver.

Mental illness is an issue that affects many students on Elon University’s campus. While not everyone suffers from a mental illness, mental health still affects us all and it deserves to be taken seriously and respected as a real problem students are consistently facing. Too often, Elon students use mental illness terminology flippantly in casual conversations, speaking phrases such as “Sorry, I’m so OCD” or “Oh I’m so depressed.” For students who actually suffer from these mental illnesses, using this terminology is perfectly OK.
Lauren Bush Lauren, founder and chief executive officer of FEED Projects, was the keynote speaker for Elon University’s “Women at Elon: Moving Philanthropy Forward” event on Thursday, May 4 in the Whitley Auditorium. Lauren began by asking everyone in the audience to close their eyes and imagine the last time they were hungry.
