Football can't capitalize on chances against Richmond

RICHMOND — The Elon University football team had many chances to score against No. 18 University of Richmond Saturday afternoon. But Elon could not capitalize on the chances it had offensively early, and Richmond overpowered Elon’s defense en route to a 27-14 victory. We built a hole against a very good opponent in Richmond,” head coach Rich Skrosky said.

Column: Defeat leaves Skrosky searching for big plays on offense

While the Elon University football team lost the lead late in the fourth quarter, they’ll be looking back at the first half for an abundance of missed scoring chances against North Carolina A&T State University. Elon started its first five drives from its own 47 yard line, NC A&T’s 45 and its own 46, 45 and 40 yard lines. While the Phoenix reached Aggie territory in four of those five drives, it came away with no points. “We had a couple missed opportunities in the first half,” said head coach Rich Skrosky. You could say that again.

Defense wears down in blowout at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM - After one quarter of play for the Elon University football team, the defense was standing tall against the Wake Forest University offense, allowing just three points. But the Demon Deacons had possession of the ball for 9 minutes and 33 seconds in the first, and the amount of time spent on the field came back to haunt Elon's defense in the second quarter. Wake Forest scored 21 points in the 2nd quarter and never looked back, defeating Elon 41-3 Thursday night while gaining 591 yards of total offense. "If we want to be a dominant-style defense, we have to do it for 60 minutes," head coach Rich Skrosky said.
