Last-second goal gives women's lacrosse win over No. 10 Duke

Sophomore attacker/midfielder Shelby Scanlin scored with six seconds left to break the tie and give the Elon University women’s lacrosse team its first signature win Thursday, defeating No. 10 Duke University 7-6 in Durham. Elon got a man-up situation with 18 seconds left, and Scanlin converted on her second shot, getting an assist from junior attacker Sloane Kessler.

Sophomore starts new business fraternity

Sophomore Francesca Filandro has created the new business fraternity Colony of Delta Sigma Pi at Elon University this academic year. Since November 2015, the fraternity has quickly grown in popularity, with 50 current members and 25 more students interested in joining. Delta Sigma Pi is one of 15 established business-focused organizations on campus.

Sophomore Business Fellow Kristen Lober uses her Windows laptop not only for specific business software, but also to watch Netflix, check Facebook and shop online. “My computer is always in my backpack, and I pretty much always have my phone in my hand,” Lober said. Whether it’s in the library, in the student center, in the classroom or at home, students’ eyes are almost always glued to the screens of their personal technology devices.

The Elon University men’s basketball team concludes its home schedule Thursday night, and the Senior Night festivities bring out the emotions from head coach Matt Matheny. “It comes so fast — you can see it in the face of our players when they realize that this is it,” Matheny said.

Elon University’s Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) hosted its first on-campus student employment fair Wednesday afternoon. The event was held in McKinnon Hall in Moseley center, where over 14 on-campus employers set up booths for prospective employees.

Women’s lacrosse starts season with 3 wins

Down a pair of goals in the second half on the road to Coastal Carolina University, the Elon University women’s lacrosse team didn’t waver. After sophomore midfielder Abby Godfrey scored her second goal of the game to put the Phoenix to within one, junior attacker Sloane Kessler scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the span of 1:04 to give Elon a 5-4 comeback victory and a 3-0 record to start the year.  “We were off a little bit off in a lot of respects,” said head coach Josh Hexter.

The 'Black History Month Dance Celebration' bring inspiration from Ghana

Black History Month is often a reflection of the achievements made by black Americans. This education will take on a new form with the dance celebration put on by the performing arts department, combining an original collaboration between faculty, students and professionals in a dance, spoken word and singing event to celebrate black history on Feb. 26 in Yeager Recital Hall.
