Elon professor discusses history of HIV in young adults

Since the mid-1990s, HIV testing and preventive interventions have caused a 90 percent decline in the number of children perinatally infected with HIV, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But for Cynthia Fair, Elon University professor of human services studies and public health studies coordinator, there is still room for further progress.

Elon University Board of Trustees welcomes two new members

Elon University Board of Trustees recently elected two new members: Cynthia Citrone of Southport, Connecticut and David King of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Cynthia Citrone serves on the Elon Parents Council with her husband, and is one of the university's strongest donors.

Coordinator of Jewish student life leaving Elon

The current acting director and coordinator of Jewish student life on campus, Ginny Vellani, will be leaving Elon at the end of May, according to an email sent to members of Elon Hillel Wednesday afternoon. "I have loved working with you, and have been inspired every day by your energy, curiosity, and bright spirits," said Vellani to Hillel members.

Civic engagement is more than just going to vote

This year, as a part of the Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows program, I went on a trip studying the Civil Rights Movement through the deep south. On the trip, I learned more about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the fight for voting rights in our country. It breaks my heart that voter registration is a fight many people in our country struggled to win and many other countries still fight for every day. Despite winning this fight though, so many young people decide not tovote. It is such a privilege to be citizens of a country that wants to hear our voices yet we decide not to use them. It really frustrates me, and frankly, drives me a little crazy.

Elon Votes! works to increase student participation

It was junior Kristen Lilley’s first time voting in her state’s primary elections last week. She chose to request an absentee ballot for her home state of Virginia. Lilley said she used the online site TurboVote and went through an easy registration process.

As all 10 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) women’s basketball teams make their way to Upper Marlboro, Maryland, the second year in the conference for Elon University feels all too familiar to the first. Just like the men’s basketball team, Elon is in the exact same position as last season, playing as the fourth seed and needing to go through conference powerhouse James Madison University in the semifinals to get to the championship.

Three home runs leads baseball to 10-5 win over Liberty

After a poor showing the past weekend, Elon’s offense came together giving them a win over Liberty University, 10-5. The middle of the lineup came out firing for the phoenix with junior infielder Nick Zammarelli going 2 for 4 including an RBI double in the second to contribute to Elon’s early lead.

Shay Burnett named All-CAA First Team for women's basketball

Elon University women's basketball sophomore guard Shay Burnett was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) All-CAA First Team Tuesday night, the conference announced on its livestream award show. Burnett led the Phoenix in scoring and rebounding, finishing with 13 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game.
