This was the third meeting between the two schools this season; they split the regular season series as both held their home court. With the win, Elon (15-15) advances to the semi-finals where they will face #1 seed Chattanooga (27-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Elon beats defending SoCon champ Samford

The Elon University men’s tennis team was riding high after defeating defending Southern Conference champion Samford University 7-0 Saturday, March 8 to increase its winning streak to three. “I’m very happy how the team competed,” Elon head coach Michael Leonard said.

Tree branches block paths across campus

In less than three months, graduating seniors will sit under the oaks for the commencement ceremony, but right now, branches, twigs and ice cover Elon's campus after an ice storm. Many tree branches fell on brick paths, blocking the way for students to walk. Physical Plant workers have been doing anything they can to clear the debris. The ice that coats the limbs makes them so heavy, it's hard for workers to pick them up on their own.

As ice hits the Triad area, Elon University has canceled classes for Friday. Ice weighed down tree branches to breaking point, knocked out power to several areas on campus and off, and made driving conditions much more perilous.

Elon women's tennis wins sixth straight

The weather outside was less than ideal, but the Elon University women’s tennis team felt just fine inside the comforts of the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility, as the team cruised to a 4-0 defeat of East Carolina University March 6 in Greenville, N.C. The win was the sixth straight for the Phoenix and improved the team’s record to 6-4 on the season.  It was also the team’s fourth straight sweep and fifth in the past six matches. Senior Jordan Johnston and junior Barbora Lazarova led the way to another sweep of the doubles action for Elon, as the pair defeated junior Dana Gray and freshman Maria Storozheva, 8-3.

The end of an era: Hester set to move on

According to multiple reports, one of the greatest kick returners to ever play the game of football is parting ways with the team that drafted him with the 57th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Devin Hester, the record-setting kick/punt returner for the Chicago Bears, will not return to the team next season and is set to become a free agent when free agency begins March 11. While rumors swirled about his possible departure, Hester made it official March 5, posting the following message to his official Facebook page: “To all my Chicago people...I can't thank you all enough for my time in Chicago.
