Burlington community members and Elon students came together this weekend to promote active living.

"Active City Streets" is an event to promote a life of exercise and nutritional eating.

Some of the featured events were Zumba, karate demonstrations, unicycling, hula hooping, yoga classes and even a performance from Elon's Finest.

But that wasn't all that was there.

They also had healthy-food trucks and a farmers market with produce, flowers and foods locally grown and produced.

There were 12 Elon organizations present for the event and dozens more volunteers with the Kernodle Center.

The successful event fostered a lot of community development.

Elon senior Mat Goldberg, who worked at the event, said why it's important for Elon students to come to Burlington events like this one.

"I think we talk a lot about how Elon is the place where we belong, recognizing that Elon is our home. But recognizing that Burlington is our home too, and that we have a responsibility to see Burlington and the community, is all the same"
