Historical Town Gives Guests a Look into the Past

Students not headed home for Fall Break can head 40 minutes down the road to the historical village of Old Salem. Founded in 1766 by a Protestant group called the Moravians, Old Salem acted primarily as a town for craftsmen instead of an agricultural town like many of the surrounding areas. Tyler Cox, Manager of Community relations for Winston Salem, says he enjoys giving back to the community and seeing people from all over come to visit. "We consider ourselves the Monticello of Winston Salem," Cox said.

Vidisdottir setting up for big 2013-2014 women's golf season

As the Elon University women’s golf team prepares to begin its season this spring, it will look to accomplished sophomore Sunna Vidisdottir to lead the way. Vidisdottir is coming off an impressive freshman year and is expected to be among the top players in the Southern Conference this year. Perhaps even more unique than Vidisdottir’s talent, though, is her route to Elon. Crossing seas Vidisdottir came to Elon last fall from Reykjavik, Iceland, and has been a key contributor to the Phoenix from the start.

Elon women’s soccer enters ‘new season’ riding high

They’ve already played 10 games in 2013, but for the Elon University women’s soccer team, the real season has just begun with the schedule turning to Southern Conference play. “(Elon head coach Chris Neal) always calls non-conference the first season and conference the second season,” said senior forward Jennifer McGorty.
