Studying abroad wasn't the best time of my life

I know what you’re thinking. If, after four months in a beautiful and foreign continent, these are my overarching sentiments, then I clearly did the whole study-abroad thing wrong or I didn’t try hard enough.  It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I wasn’t having “the best time of my life” during an experience many college kids would describe as “the best times of their lives.” I experienced a lot of mental anguish simply over the fact that I wasn’t enjoying myself the way I hoped I would or the way I saw others enjoying themselves.

Veering off path, Elon assesses offense after loss to James Madison

Holding his head in his hands, rubbing his eyes at times, sophomore guard Dmitri Thompson seemed at a loss for words as he tried to describe Saturday night’s 82-64 loss to James Madison University in Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball. There was the blooming first half where the Elon University men’s basketball team shot 60.7 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from 3-point range. But there also was the 25 percent clip — and the dim 6.3 percent (1 of 16) performance from long distance — in the second half.

Defense leads the way in women’s basketball win

The Elon University women’s basketball team used a stout defensive effort to overcome offensive struggles and claim a 52-41 victory over the College of Charleston Friday night, snapping a three-game losing streak. In a game that was riddled with offensive miscues from both teams, Elon won the rebounding battle 45-36 including several offensive rebounds late in the game that took time off the clock and sealed the Colonial Athletic Association victory for the Phoenix (10-7 overall, 3-3 CAA). “You have to control the controllables and we feel like the two things you can control are defense and rebounding,” said Elon coach Charlotte Smith.

Winter weather update

At least for the Piedmont Triad region, Winter Storm Jonas has been underwhelming and luckily it will continue to follow that trend. At one point Thursday night, the National Weather Service was anticipating and predicting upwards of 9 inches of snow - yes, snow, not sleet - for Elon's area specifically.
