Crucial win for Phoenix, follow-up necessary in Boone

The Elon Phoenix men’s basketball team went into Cullowhee, N.C., Thursday night and took care of their proverbial business, defeating the Western Carolina Catamounts 71-63. The Phoenix (10-9 overall, 5-3 Southern Conference) got 26 points and six rebounds from sophomore guard Jack Isenbarger, who has replaced senior guard Drew Spradlin in the starting lineup and produced, averaging 20 points, five rebounds and three assists in the past three contests for Elon. His best game of the season came against the Catamounts (9-12, 3-5 SoCon), as he shot 7-13 from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line.

Hustle, craftiness propel Phoenix to win over Mocs

Jack Isenbarger picked a good time to notice something wrong in the Chattanooga defense. With Elon University trailing by a point and just over a minute remaining in the game, the sophomore guard noticed a Mocs defender "sleeping" in the post and threw a pass up to Lucas Troutman. The sophomore forward didn't see the ball until it was halfway on its path near the basket.

With the losses piling up and nothing seeming to work, Elon University head coach Matt Matheny is doing anything he can to change the Phoenix's fortunes. On Thursday night against Samford University, that meant trotting out a different starting lineup.

Multi-Faith center construction begins

The Academic Village is just the latest site of construction on Elon University's campus. This week, a team broke ground on the Numen Lumen Pavilion, the final building in the village which will serve as a Multi-faith Center. The Numen Lumen Pavilion was formally dedicated at a ceremony in November and will include a multipurpose room, prayer room and meditation garden.

Spurring from the popular first world problems meme (and its many, many variations), Elon now has its very own Twitter accounts focusing on the problems on campus.
