Mold On Campus

While some students were greeted by orientation leaders this weekend, others were greeted by an unwelcome guest in their homes. Mold was found in some areas on campus from the Danieley Center to Mill Point. Physical Plant was on call during new student move in to deal with any problems in student's rooms, including signs of mold. Director of Physical Plant, Robert Buchholz, said that North Carolina's recent wet weather might be the cause. "The humidity is very high and you can start mildew and some mold growth that's not hazardous," Buchholz said.

Global Village Construction Update

Although construction on the Global Village continues, buildings four and five are completed. These buildings are currently housing learning communities such as the International Learning-Living community and the Spanish Learning-Living community. Regular dormitories are also located in these building and will house mostly first year students.

Is Elon The Most Beautiful College Campus?

If you've been on Facebook lately, odds are you saw an article by thebestcolleges.org listing Elon as the most beautiful college campus. The list ranks Elon above Kenyon College, Sewanee: The University of the South and Pepperdine University. Elon has been at the top of the list since 2011. "Everyone was so excited Elon was the number one most beautiful campus," Associate Professor of Computing Sciences, Dr. Megan Squire said.

Elon Businesses Closing

"We didn't have enough local business to stay open," Chris Russell owner of Town Table and College Street Taphouse, said. Both businesses closed their doors over the summer for economic reasons, even though they were hotspots just outside of Elon's campus. Though it wasn't the summer that closed the restaurant and bar, it did not help Russell.

Departments of Music, Performing Arts look to engage students

Boasting one of the Princeton Review’s Top 15 college theater programs, Elon University has scheduled its fall cultural calendar, which offers numerous events within the fields of music and the performing arts. Within the Department of Music, there are more than 80 planned performances featuring faculty, guest artists and 16 different student ensembles.

Elon leaders give advice at New Student Convocation

Families gathered Under the Oaks for Elon University's New Student Convocation on Saturday morning, August 24 . During convocation, first year students were able to gain knowledge from Elon University leaders. Welsford Bishopric, SGA President, told the new students to reflect on their past, but to also work toward their futures. President Leo Lambert also addressed the new students with words of advice. "Practice the arts of tolerance, understanding, and kindness during your days as an Elon student," President Lambert said. Following convocation, new students received their acorns and officially began their journey as Elon students. [div class="aligncenter"][/div]

Stark saves Elon late as Phoenix battle Pirates to 1-1 draw

Through 84 minutes on Sunday Aug. 25, the Elon University women’s soccer team had dominated the East Carolina University Pirates. That all changed with six minutes remaining in regulation, as the Pirates converted on their second corner kick of the match to all but pull the rug out from under the Phoenix, who at the time owned heavy shots and corner kick margins of 13-1 and 21-2, respectfully. That is if the Pirates could hold on. Three minutes later, the Phoenix tied the game with a goal from senior Chelsey Stark to knot the game at one.

Elon alumna Kelly Zug takes Fulbright award to Bulgaria

When entering college, most students like to have a plan. But sometimes college comes with opportunities that change what one wants to do in life. For Kelly Zug, who graduated from Elon University in 2012, this was exactly the case. Zug recently received a Fulbright program English Teaching Assistantship award to teach in Bulgaria for one year, starting this fall.
