NC Department of Health and Human Services under federal investigation

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is investigating the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, according to a Sept. 25 News & Observer report. Under criminal investigation are contracts for a consulting firm hired by the department and high-ranking employees. The federal office subpoenaed the department for information on more than 30 employees and contracts in late July, according to the report.

NC Tea Party Constitutional Caucus to meet in Burlington

Burlington will host one of the meetings of the North Carolina Tea Party Constitutional Caucus Oct. 17. On-site registration begins 9 a.m. at Holly Hill Mall and Business Center, located at 309 Huffman Mill Road. According to the caucus website, its mission is to find a U.S. presidential candidate and a North Carolina senatorial grassroots candidate who “embrace limited government, individual rights, fiscal responsibility and free markets, and who represent the citizens of the State and not special interests.” The Burlington meeting is one of several that the group is holding across the state on the same date. More information can be found on the caucus website.
