Residents packed the town municipal building Tuesday to discuss the proposal for the downtown expansion master plan during the Town of Elon Board of Aldermen's meeting. Paige Lucas woke up at 3 a.m. on Friday and realized she had no power in her apartment in Danieley Center. Lucas was just one of many students in on-campus housing who were left powerless in the wake of Friday's ice storm, but unlike most students who returned to their rooms Saturday night, Lucas and the other Danieley residents weren't able to return until Sunday afternoon.

The Board of Aldermen has recently proposed some changes to the town of Elon. In a $160,000 plan, houses along Haggard Avenue, as well as Skid's Restaurant and other local businesses are to be replaced by offices and town commons.

The Greensboro Science Center is home to penguins, stingrays, sharks and many other animals. But recently, there have been some new additions. Theodore, Quincy, Eleanor, Molly and Abigail are the new baby otters that were born at the science center a few months ago; Natalie Johnson helps take care of them.

Jose Antonio Vargas came from the Philippines to live with his grandparents in the United States when he was 12. Four years later, Vargas took his green card to the DMV to apply for a driver's license and was told it was fake. It was then that he learned he was in this country illegally.

As snow swept through the Triad area on Feb. 12 to 14, boots, bibs, sleds and snowboards flew off the shelves of C&R Ski Outdoor in Elon. While some local businesses shut down to wait out the winter weather, C&R manager Marvin "Bullet" Franklin braved the storm to open up shop and serve the many locals who were unprepared for the snow and ice.

The Town of Elon has proposed a new revitalization plan that would restructure the eight-block area known as downtown Elon.
