Elon student transitions from YouTube vlogger to stand-up comedian

Last year, Elon Local News gave you the inside scoop on YouTube vlogger, Powell Mansfield. Now that Mansfield is a senior, we decided to follow up on his future plans as an entertainer who promoted himself through a free social media platform. The Elon senior is a double-major in Media Arts and Entertainment and French who has been very campus-involved during his college career.

Incoming students visit campus for Rising Phoenix Weekend

You might have passed a new classmate any time between Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15. Elon's incoming students got their first taste of college life this past weekend at "Rising Phoenix Weekend," formerly known as Spring Orientation. The Class of 2018 came from all over the country with relatives and friends to tour the campus and prepare for their college careers. Assistant Director of Admissions, Scott Christopherson, organized the event and gave 7-minute introduction sessions before every tour. "This gives the incoming students a chance to see what it would be like to be a student on campus," Christopherson said. Students were given tours of the campus and were able to sit attend informational sessions about Elon Experiences and academics. More incoming students from the Class of 2018 will visit campus later in April for an additional Rising Phoenix Weekend event.

Hillel hosts a Purim holiday bagel brunch

A typical bagel brunch turned into a holiday celebration at the Hillel House this Sunday, March 16. Students of many different religious denominations gathered at the cultural event to celebrate the Jewish holiday, Purim. "Purim is like the Jewish Halloween or Mardi-Gras.

Students put fitness first as New Year's resolution in 2014

The clinks and beeps of workout machines are ringing in 2014 at Elon University. Well, at least, they are if you have been going to the gym lately. "Go to the gym or exercise everyday." "Stop drinking soda and play more tennis so I don't get the 'freshman 15.'" "Do more pushups." "Do more yoga." These are only some of the many New Year's resolutions that have been expressed on campus.

Elon residents battle Breast Cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Two residents of Elon N.C. support one another through their battle. "I stayed on the chemotherapy machine for 4 hours and 45 minutes," Mae Jayce Cousin said.
