Sweet-shooting Northeastern drops Elon under .500

BOSTON-- A strong offensive performance by the duo of Zach Stahl and Scott Eatherton and a hot shooting hand by the rest the Northeastern University men's basketball team led the Huskies to a big 80-61 win over Elon University on Saturday night in Boston. Stahl and Eatherton combined to score 35 points on 16-of-18 shooting and Northeastern made 60 percent of its shots on the night to give Elon its sixth loss in the last seven games. With the win, the Huskies improve to 15-8 (7-3 CAA) and while the Phoenix drops to 11-12 (3-7 CAA). A 16-3 run heading into halftime propelled Northeastern to a 15 point halftime advantage, a deficit Elon was unable to overcome.

Elon falls flat in loss at UNCW

WILMINGTON N.C.-- Midway through the second half of the Elon University men's basketball team's 82-65 loss to UNC Wilmington on Wednesday night, sophomore forward Christian Hairston stopped looking up at the scoreboard. The Phoenix trailed the Seahawks by 30, and the team was trying to keep fighting. "As a competitor you just try to play basketball," Hairston said.

‘We've forgotten about the conversation’: HIV/AIDS still hits the South as awareness fades

45 years after the first reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the U.S., the fight against this disease is far from over, especially in the South. According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the South accounted for 52% of all HIV diagnoses in the U.S. in 2023. "We know that HIV/AIDS has had a disproportionate effect on people of color or queer people of color in this country," Professor of communication studies at Vanderbilt University Jeff Bennett said. "You have many people living in rural areas. You might have distrust of medical providers, you have the social stigma.”
