New York voters make plea with North Carolina Millennials, minorities

HARLEM, NEW YORK — Danielle Jones' early morning jog route around the streets of Harlem today included a pit stop she doesn't take every day — a polling location. Whatever heart rate she was monitoring on her iPhone app relaxed for a few minutes while she waited in line to vote, and afterward, she placed a sticker on her Nike sweatshirt to reaffirm to those who passed by that she committed her greatest American civic duty on Election Day.

Strength, energy defined Dennion on, off field

They gathered at midfield, where she played 37 matches in her No. 22 jersey, where she was honored on senior day a year ago, where she touched the hearts of many through her tenacious, dominant play. And right there, on Rudd Field, Nicole Dennion’s former teammates, friends and fellow Elon University athletes lit up this cold November night with candles that formed the number “22” and her initials, “N.K.D.” and with countless memories and stories of the high-energy, always honest woman taken too soon. The game-day selfies she and best friend Mel Insley ‘16 used to take.

Alumna publishes book about the comedy in motherhood

DeeDee Filiatreault has spent her career “writing words for other people,” but with the publishing of her first book of essays, the spotlight is on her. Filiatreault graduated Elon in 1993 after serving as the Editor in Chief of The Pendulum. At the time the organization consisted of a few students and a wax machine. “When I became editor, everyone took a step back and I was the one standing there,” Filiatreault said.

Men's soccer season ends with 1-0 loss in CAA quarterfinals

The Elon University men's soccer team's season is effectively over after the Phoenix fell to the College of William and Mary 1-0 Saturday night in the CAA tournament quarterfinal match at Rudd Field. Despite being outshot 12 to five, the Phoenix had plenty of opportunities around the net, including three corner kicks.

Football sputters to 5th-straight loss at Towson

TOWSON, Md. — Another Saturday of opportunities squandered led to the Elon University football team dropping its fifth straight game, this one a 23-6 defeat at Towson University Saturday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. The Phoenix had three drives reach inside the Towson 10-yard line, but none of the three resulted in touchdowns, including a fumble at the 1-yard line that Towson recovered. “I think this one went similar to our previous several,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Men's soccer gears up for CAA tournament

The Elon University men’s soccer team is gearing up for what is expected by many to be a competitive post-season tournament in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Phoenix will undoubtedly be looking to get out of the slump it endured towards the end of the season that saw head coach Chris Little’s team drop three straight matches despite having played tough and competitive soccer throughout each performance.

A legend returns to where he bELONgs

"What's your name?" the legend asks. "Alex," Alex Attanasio, Danieley Residence Area Coordinator replies. "Where are you from?" he asks. "Connecticut," Attanasio says. On Thursday evening Elon legend Dr. James Earl Danieley visited Daniel Commons in the Danieley Neighborhood to meet with students and hear their thoughts.

Former Elon University student arrested for sexual exploitation charge

A Burlington man, who previously attended Elon University, was arrested April 21 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Nikolaos Alexander Fotiou, 18, was taken to the Alamance County Detention Center and is being held there under no bond, as of April 24. According to a Burlington Police Department press release, the Invictus Task Force aided with the investigation.

Meet Elon University’s 2026 Lumen Prize winners

Fifteen students have been selected to receive $20,000 to support their mentored research and projects for the next two years as a part of the Lumen Prize. The 2026 Lumen Scholar winners will work closely with their mentors on their projects during their junior and senior years.
