Former North Carolina state senator, Elon College alumnus dies

Jerry Tillman, who served in the North Carolina General Assembly for over 17 years, died on Saturday at age 82. The longtime senator played baseball for Elon University, where he was an honorable-mention All-American for the then Fighting Christians.

Elon Votes to host watch party for President Biden's State of the Union

U.S. President Joe Biden will speak to a joint Congress for the annual State of the Union address tonight at 9 p.m. in Washington D.C. Elon Votes! is hosting a watch party tonight in the Moseley Student Center. The State of the Union will air on major television networks and other news outlets, in addition to online live streams.

Town of Elon votes to approve rezoning request

During the Dec. 13 work session meeting, Elon’s town council voted unanimously to approve the rezoning request for Tax Parcel 108932, the land located at the intersection of University Drive and Cook Road. Previously, according to the town’s Land Development Ordinance, the land was zoned for industrial use and now it is suburban residential.

Town of Elon holds student focus group on future development

Members of the planning team Jason Epley and Dan Douglas are meeting with Elon University students, faculty and staff, as well as Elon locals and business owners, to figure out what would work best for the community.

Julee Tate Flood was elected as a judge for the North Carolina Appeals Court, filling Seat 8, by 52.62% of the vote. Flood will assume the role of current Judge Lucy Inman, whose term is set to expire at the end of 2022.

Amy Galey reelected to NC Senate for District 25

The North Carolina senator currently represents District 24 and will represent District 25 following the state’s redistricting. Galey grew up in Union Ridge, a town in Alamance County, and attended University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Law. Galey is licensed to practice in N.C., S.C., and Washington, D.C.
