Last-gasp pass broken up as football loses to New Hampshire

On its final play of the night, the Elon University football team went for the win. But sophomore quarterback Daniel Thompson’s pass intended for freshman wide receiver Cole Taylor was broken up and the Phoenix lost to the University of New Hampshire 13-10 Friday night at Rhodes Stadium. “It was a good college football game — it was two good teams that put it all on the line,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Flood warning issued for Alamance County

A flood warning has been issued for Alamance County by the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The warning will be in effective until 4:28 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10. According to the National Weather Service, the Haw River stage was 11.6 feet on Saturday Afternoon.

Changing the narrative with "Our Watch"

Be it through a 2-minute video released by a passerby or a less than 30-second clip from a police vehicle’s dash cam, recordings have played a vital role in fuelling conversation— and in some cases, division — in the public on issues surrounding the shootings of black men at the hands of police. A team of Elon students — led by seniors Emmanuel Obi and Keith Davis — are striving to change the narrative with a solution: “Our Watch,” a system for the distribution of these recordings.

Michelle Obama focuses on the future at NC State rally

During First Lady Michelle Obama’s rally for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama spoke about the importance of the 2016 presidential election and how key issues will unfold over the course of the next presidency. She regularly referenced the importance of voting and told attendees how to get involved as volunteers registered students before and after the event on the behalf of the Clinton campaign.. Obama spoke at Reynolds Coliseum at North Carolina State University at 3 p.m.

EDITORIAL: Have thoughts about free speech at Elon? Come discuss!

Some researchers are saying free speech is suppressed on college campuses — an April 2016 Gallup survey that surveyed more than 3,000 college students in the nation revealed that 54 percent of students believe, “the climate on [their] campus prevents some people from saying what they believe because others might find it offensive.”  Others are saying that colleges are just becoming more inclusive — the Wall Street Journal reported on a survey of 800 college students that found 51 percent, “favored speech codes.”  But what are you saying?

NTIM: Unknowns, uncertainties and the undecided voter

It is an intimidating challenge to be a young voter in this election. When I was in high school, I used to dread going to AP government because our political system seemed too complex and unpredictable. Today, I am 19 and have come to terms with the reality that I cannot be an apathetic citizen — I should vote this year. My experiences at Elon have increased my political consciousness.

Examining voter registration at Elon

Registering to vote can be a complicated process at Elon University. Forty-nine different states are represented on campus, with 75 percent of the student population coming from out of state, according to the university’s most recent Registrar’s Report.
