'Breaking Bad' creator: Don't fear the cliffhanger

Millions of Americans have spent Sunday nights on meth for the past five years. This past Sunday, there were about 10.3 million. According to Nielsen ratings, that’s how many viewers tuned into the series finale of the AMC network’s wildly popular drama series “Breaking Bad.” This is coming off the show’s big win last week at the Emmys, where it (finally) took home the trophy for Outstanding Drama Series over the likes of “Homeland” and Netflix darling “House of Cards.” People love “Breaking Bad,” that much is obvious.

Letter to the Editor: Elon SLIC Alliance on Chick-fil-A

On behalf of a group of disappointed students, we would like to voice some criticism of the recent cover story about Chick-fil-A’s reopening. While the article does provide a good summary of last year’s Chick-fil-A controversy, it fails to address the full and current range of opinions on Elon’s campus. The problem with this coverage is that all of the students who voiced opposition to Chick-fil-A that were represented in the article graduated last year, while a number of the students who voiced support in the article were current students.

This piece is the fourth in a series of “Ask an Alum” columns that will be periodically published online through a partnership between Elon University’s Young Alumni Council and The Pendulum. The “Elon Bubble," as most would describe it, is a collection of intelligent and talented individuals whose college experience is very different than most. The size and culture of Elon University are both conducive to creating a tight-knit community, which can sometimes shield students from the goings-on of the outside world.

Elon volleyball falls at Samford, wins thriller at Chattanooga

The Elon University volleyball team lost at Samford University Friday, Oct. 18, 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 21-25), and won against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga the following day, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12). The Phoenix is now 4-4 in Southern Conference play and has a 13-11 record on the season. Against the Bulldogs, Elon got in an 8-4 hole early after a service error by senior defensive specialist Maggie Reichard.
