For the second time in as many tries, Elon University cross country sophomore Nick Ciolkowski went to the Colonial Athletic Association championships and emerged victorious, defending his CAA individual title in Newark, Delaware Saturday morning. But Ciolkowski said he preferred this year’s method — a comfortable pace for five kilometers, a burst with around three kilometers to go, and then cruise control to a 13-second victory — over last season’s seven-tenths-of-a-second sprint to the tape. “It felt great — it was a little less stressful than last year,” Ciolkowski said.
The Elon University’s volleyball team held their annual breast cancer awareness match, Pink Match today, Oct. 30, and although they put up a great fight, the team lost to the University of Delaware by a 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 21-25) in Alumni Gym. Pink Match is an event that is important to not only the volleyball team and their families, but to the community of Elon as well.
Elon University senior Marissa Costner is the face of the nationwide campaign for food provider Aramark to change some of its policies. Costner has been working alongside The Humane League, a nonprofit organization that aims to protect farm animals, to invoke a change in Aramark's treatment of animals.
The Elon University men’s soccer team lost its third straight match at Rudd Field Saturday evening to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season champion Hofstra University 3-1. The match was level at 1-1 heading into the final twenty minutes of play, but the deadlock was broken when Hofstra freshman forward Luke Brown was able to collect a save from Elon redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Jegier and kick the ball into the goal, giving the Pride the lead.
The Elon University women’s basketball team started its season off on the right foot, winning its lone exhibition game 74-72 over Division II Wingate University Saturday afternoon. Elon was able to storm out of the gates at the beginning of each half, holding a 23-7 advantage in both the first and third quarters.

On Friday, the Garden Club hosted its annual pumpkin festival, bringing many of Elon’s students together. The truth is not all conservatives are racists, sexists, islamophobes, xenophobes, or homophobes. Sure, there are people like that who consider themselves conservatives, but they don’t reflect a conservative ideal and are by no means justified in their thoughts or actions.

Five Elon University freshmen student-athletes were reprimanded by their respective athletic teams for shooting paintballs at the house of President Leo Lambert late last week, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. Three of the athletes were football players — wide receiver Jeremiah Bridges, defensive back Khalil Moore and defensive lineman Marcus Willoughby — and two were women’s basketball players — guards Jada Graves and Madison Wilder.

When Elon University students walked into Lakeside Dining Hall for lunch today, they were handed a pamphlet with the headline, "The Life of an Aramark Chicken." The front of the flyer featured a picture of an abused chicken. The pamphlets were being handed out by senior Marissa Costner and Humane League member Maddie Segal. "We are asking [Aramark] to change a few of their policies to make it better for animals," Segal said.
