Free speech protests at Emory demonstrate necessity of civil conversation

It’s been an interesting couple weeks for Emory University. After chalk messages supporting Republican frontrunner Donald Trump appeared on various walkways of the Atlanta university, a number of conservative students responded with anti-Trump protests, believing the messages represented a legitimate threat to their safety and to the state of inclusivity at their campus.

Student balances performing in Georgia

Elon student James Tiernan is a member of Sweetbay, a professional band based in Georgia. Tiernan is balancing being a full-time student, and finding time to commit to his band. James Tiernan has been playing music since he was eight, but now he balances being a student, with being the bassist of Sweetbay. All the band mates are from just outside of Atlanta and had an unexpected first performance at a charity event. "We just got on stage and he called out songs and we played them but we vibe so well together that you know we were like we need to keep playing together," Tiernan said. Tiernan has dedicated his life to music, and can play over five instruments, including the violin bass and guitar.

Burlington animal shelter receives much-needed revamp, renovations

When looking just at the statistics, the Burlington Pet Adoption Center is doing better than ever. Animal intake was reduced by 14 percent from 2014 to 2015, and euthanasia was reduced by 48 percent, according to Burlington Animal Services reports.

Football starts spring practices

Most college students would love more down time. But for rising sophomore quarterback Connor Christiansen, all the down time meant he couldn’t be on the field for the Elon University football team. And now, after four months of workouts, he gets to do just that. “I don’t know how many weeks of winter workouts we had, but it felt like it would never end,” Christiansen said.
