McCrory’s jab at liberal arts elicits controversy

Gov. Pat McCrory recently sparked a debate among educators when he claimed certain liberal arts degrees from public universities are not economically viable in the long run. He said such majors should be offered exclusively at private schools, sparking indignation among many members of the Elon University community.

Elon poll results show higher support for gun control, lower support for Congress

Sequestration, gun control and the state legislature constituted the questions in the most recent Elon Poll, which released results March 1 and March 4. The live-caller telephone poll of 891 residents was conducted Feb. 24-28, and the results have a margin of error of 3.28 percentage points.

New Jewish Fraternity

Elliot Aks, Garrett Mann, Ben Karas, Zach Csillag, and Mason Sklut all had a vision. The five Elon students wanted to bring a jewish fraternity to our campus, and a year later the founding fathers of Zeta Beta Tau the world's first Jewish Fraternity, were initiated.

New Numen Lumen Pavilion

Bill legalizing medical marijuana surfaces in NC General Assembly

Note: By the time this article ran, the NC General Assembly gave the legislation an "unfavorable report." This means that similar legislation will be marked as being "unfavorable" and this will be made known to the representatives by the clerk and allows them the opportunity to vote to accept the report and kill the bill. This makes it unlikely for any further medical marijuana legislation to be considered in this legislative session.

“The Village Project” opens new Burlington facility for student use

Renaming the Oaks

Last week, several buildings within the Oaks apartment complex underwent a change. Oaks A, B, E and F were renamed after prominent Elon faculty and staff members. Oaks A is know known as Williams, after Jo Watts Williams. She is a Vice President Emerita and Professor of Education Emerita. While at Elon, she taught in both the education and psychology departments before being named Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Director of the Learning Resource Center, and finally Vice President for Development and Special Assistant to the President

Battling Student Loans with the Tuition Increase

Elon Trustees Approve Tuition Increase

The Elon University trustees approved a tuition increase under 4 percent for the third year in a row. Next year, tuition will increase by 3.9 percent for Elon's undergraduate program, bringing the total cost for students living on campus to $40,046.

Gun permits skyrocket in Alamance County
