WHALEN: Improving awareness for Women’s History Month

As feminists and engaged Elon University students, we often tend to question the status quo. In many settings and circumstances, I, and I’m sure many of my peers, are grateful to Elon academia and our activist generation for instilling in us this helpful skill of not simply accepting but rather questioning.

TIEMANN: Empowering students to protest on campus

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by all the evil in the world and feel helpless to stop it. As young college students, we are relatively powerless beyond campus. As a student on the generally predictable campus of Elon University, I take pride in still being connected to the “real” world through news and social media.

BONNER: Elon needs to strengthen sustainability promotion

Not knowing much about sustainability myself, I began to wonder what it means to be sustainable on a college campus, particularly here at Elon University. From daily observations and research, it has struck me that sustainability initiatives are present; however, students might not always follow them or care enough to partake in them.

By now, school children in North Carolina have brought markers, scissors, folders and other supplies to class. However, there is one key supply that many of them lack as they begin a new school year: safe, lead-free water at school.

FERREYROS: 'Why aren't you brown?'

One of my favorite things to do is ask people where they think I am from. It starts out as a game, but deep down, I want people to ask me about my culture and question their stereotypes rather than my identity based on the color of my skin.
