Elon University, local community commemorate legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Elon LEADS raises $260 million

Elon LEADS, Elon University’s largest fundraising campaign raised over $260 million at its conclusion Dec. 31, 2022, Elon University President Connie Book announced Jan. 12. The total surpassed the goal of $250 million.

North Carolina Court of Appeals blocks order to release video footage from October 2020 “I Am Change” march to the polls

The North Carolina Court of Appeals overturned a June 2021 order to release unredacted police body camera footage from the Oct. 31, 2020, “I Am Change” march to the polls in Graham that ended in the use of pepper spray and 23 arrests. The vote was 2-1.

Burlington Police Department investigates false report of active shooter at Williams High School

The Burlington Police Department received a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. that said there was an active shooter inside Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, according to public information officer Emily-Lynn Adkins. The 911 call has since been deemed a false report and the department is investigating.

Meredith Smith, former Elon University admissions staff member, died unexpectedly on Nov. 27 at 35 years old. Smith started her work in admissions as an undergraduate student and worked with the university for over 18 years.
