25th annual Burlington Carousel Festival offers affordable fun for community

New York City has the Empire State Building, Los Angeles has the Hollywood sign and Burlington has the Dentzel Menagerie Carousel. But don’t underestimate its influence – the 100-year-old carousel is the reason for the beloved annual Burlington Carousel Festival, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend. “The festival is centered around the historic carousel,” said Mary Faucette, special events supervisor for the Burlington Recreation & Parks Department.

Rusie Dixon Suggs, aunt of Communications Internship Director Nagatha Tonkins, is missing. The family of 90-year-old is offering a $2000 reward for any pertinent information that leads to her safe return. 9/11 anniversary incites interfaith dialogue

The 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States continues to influence campus discussions and prompt Elon University to promote an atmosphere of peace and tolerance. In order to advance student discussion, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life held “Interact With Respect: 9/11 Dialogue” on the 11th anniversary of the attacks.

Call to Honor ceremony refines university values

The prominent four words in the honor code-- honesty, integrity, responsibility and respect -- encompass the values of the institution, and the Call to Honor ceremony demonstrates Elon University students' commitment to those principles. Although University President Leo Lambert leads the pledge to the honor code, students conduct the majority of the ceremony. "We knew from the beginning (of developing the tradition) we wanted students talking to students," said Mary Wise, associate vice president of academic affairs.
